Part 1: The game

Let's start this book with a short trip down memory-lane.

Counter-Strike was created back in 1999, when Minh Le and Jess Cliffe created it as a mod to the game Half-Life. They were later both employed by Valve before moving on to new projects. Even though they parted ways with Valve, they shaped the early years of Counter-Strike and laid the foundation for what the game is today. Minh Le who is also known by his nickname Gooseman is remembered with a graffiti mural on the map de_dust2 which became the call-out for that particular spot.

Since then, a lot of things changed and together with the ever-growing community, Valve keeps on developing the game as one of their main titles next to Dota 2.

How to play

In this chapter, we will take a look at the fundamentals of the game. Most importantly the controls and different game-modes that Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has to offer.
