Song of Arthur and Merlin Arthurian skirmish miniatures rules

In order to play this new version of Songs of Blades and Heroes you will need three D6 dice, a play area measuring a minimum of 60 cm x 60 cm, and three measuring sticks for short, medium, and long, although a measuring tape will do. The rules are primarily written for 15mm figures, but you can obviously adapt them for other scales. It is a skirmish system and uses individual models that operate separately. Each figure has a points cost, quality, combat modifier, and a trait.

The rules are well laid out, with a very detailed introduction and list of contents, and the presentation is well supported by some truly lovely illustrations. The game plays out in a very simple but elegant system. Players design their war band, building to an agreed points value, and a die roll gives the winner the chance to decide if he's tat-tacking. The defender lays out the game board and the attacker then chooses which side they will enter from.

The turn is unpredictable: the first player nominates a figure and rolls two or three dice, and for each success they will get to carry out an action. In some cases they may nominate another figure and in some cases the other player can nominate one of their figures, and so on – this means that one player might get to go several times before the other gets
