SO YOU WANT TO BE A GHOST HUNTER?

INTRODUCTION

Many people become ghost hunters because they’ve had an encounter with the paranormal and are searching for answers. With me, that’s part of it, but the main reason I became a ghost hunter is because I can see and communicate with spirits. In common terms, I’m a medium, although I detest that word for many reasons. I prefer to call myself a spirit communicator. As you may imagine, this has led to some rather amusing and interesting situations, but the desire to learn more about my gift and spirits has followed me throughout my life.

The interesting thing about my experiences is that no matter how much knowledge you gain, there’s always more to learn, and I usually end up with more questions than answers. This is what keeps me going. Every hunt is different, every spirit or entity you encounter has their own reason for being there.

Perhaps the main question in the field of paranormal science is why? What makes a person want to return here when they die? Some people believe that people come back because they miss their family and friends, or miss being physical, meaning they miss being in their body. Other people believe that spirits return because they miss what was once familiar to them. Personally, I think it could be all of the above and much more. We will explore this question in another chapter.

Most ghost hunting teams go into investigations with several goals. They want to help the people understand their experiences, and they want to learn about the spirits or spirit occupying the property. That’s all good. I do that too. But I have a slightly different approach. I want to help the people who live there, but my main objective is to help the spirit.

Now there are some spirits such as demons, elementals, and other inhumans that just simply need to go, no questions asked. However, what about the other spirits? I believe that many people, including some ghost hunters, believe that because a spirit is throwing things, slamming doors, and acting out they are negative spirits. Experience has taught me that’s not always the case.

Put yourself in their shoes for a minute. You were once alive and able to communicate with anyone you wished. People could see you and hear you. Now you’re dead. No one can see you, hear you, or help you in anyway. Imagine how frustrating that could be. No wonder some spirits throw things or act inappropriately; they’re frustrated, angry, confused, and maybe even scared.

When I encounter a spirit on a hunt, I try to communicate with it by any means possible. In many cases, the spirit just wants to be heard or acknowledged in some way. Maybe they don’t realize they’re dead, or they know they’re dead, but have what they perceive to be valuable information or a message they want to convey.

In other words, I generally will take the spirit’s side of the situation into consideration before I come to any conclusions. Now, granted, there are some spirits who are bad, or negative, and they can’t be reasoned with, but they still deserve to have
