    DEDICATION

This book is dedicated to all those who want to move forward in the paranormal field with an open mind and an open heart. I am also dedicating this book to my good friend Merita King, without whom I surely would have lost my mind a long time ago in this field. Merita is a gifted medium and a very knowledgeable lady who has helped me in many of my endeavors. She lives across the ocean in the UK but is still always there to help me with my cases and anything else I take on in this field. Merita, a great writer in her own right, is also the editor of this book. I could not have done this without her. Merita has written novels and has a series called The Lilean Chronicles which is a scifi, fantasy fiction, space opera series. I highly recommend her books to fiction lovers.

    INTRODUCTION

Nowadays, with all the television shows and movies on the subject, the pursuit of the paranormal has become a craze. There are more people exploring the field than ever before, yet we seem to be making little or no progress. In fact we seem to be still holding on to old concepts and ideas that we have no need to maintain. While the majority of the people who claim to be paranormal researchers are just ghost hunters emulating what they see on the TV reality shows, there are some real researchers out there. The people who have been working in this field for years have actually made some progress. They have a lot to offer but you will not see them on television. This is because the majority of the paranormal shows on the air are more for entertainment than for education. These real researchers usually do not want any part of the circus the paranormal field has become.

Being in the field for so long, it has been my pleasure to meet or talk to many of these people. Some of them are already in the know about much of the subject matter this book will address whilst others are not.

Many people out there searching for the paranormal will reject some of what is in this book for personal reasons. It is still my hope for some to actually consider some of these things. We need to move forward with some new ideas and a more open mind. In 35 years of working haunt cases I learned quite a bit about the spirit world and would like to share it with those who really take this work seriously. It is high time we moved into the new century and on to new discoveries, leaving behind some of the old school ideas that held us back for so long. In this field the blind are leading the blind because the people in the limelight are not those in the know. Those in the limelight possess the loudest voice on the matter although they often display the least real experience to draw from.

It is time to let go of these misguided notions and theories and move forward. I am not implying that anything in this book is carved in stone, as in this field we have no absolutes at this time. There are no experts and no absolutes. I’m just passing on some of the things I have discovered which may open up a new line of thinking or pose some new possibilities to consider.

Some of you may have read my first book Never Forever Dead and know my background, but for those who do not know me here is some brief information.

I have been a hostile haunts specialist and revolutionist in the field for 35 years now. I am not now, nor have I ever been, a ghost hunter. I recorded my first EVP in 1974 on an old cassette recorder while dealing with a horrific and hostile haunting in my childhood home. After this ordeal I felt the calling to help others who are going through this kind of paranormal trauma and have been doing it ever since.

Throughout the book I highlight in bold, certain words to act as a point of easy reference as to what the section may feature. This makes it easy to go back and find things you might wish to reference later on, as many researchers do. This book does not contain a bibliography or a list of cited sources because all of its contents are based on my personal research.

    Chapter One

Outdated and biased ideas and their sources

As I look around at paranormal websites and watch television shows, I am dismayed to see so many people still touting such primitive ideas and concepts in regard to the spirit world. Let’s take a look at some of the things which no longer serve us in serious research. One example is some of the terms that are still used. Take for instance the word poltergeist. Poltergeist is a German word which means noisy ghost. Many years ago, before there was any real understanding of the paranormal, the only people called in to help with a haunting were usually clergy or the village smart guy. These people all struggled to explain this phenomenon. They wanted an explanation they could handle; one which would make them feel as if they were in control of the situation. Poltergeists are known to create physical manifestations such as knocking, slamming doors and moving things. Rather than admit the possible existence of a spirit causing the activity, these people sometimes passed it off as the hormonal energy of a teenager, or someone else with angst in the home. This implies that the accused person was exhibiting telekinetic abilities, thereby causing the activity themselves as a result of their emotional or mental state. The person accused of causing this activity was often a female which was not surprising in the male dominated society of the day.

Now let’s really think about that for a moment. How many telekinetic teenagers do you know? It seems to me as if that sort of thing is even more remarkable and outside of the normal realm of reality than the possibility of a spirit haunting the home. People did not want to deem it as something beyond human control. To accept the existence of the spirit world was not very popular in those days and was frowned upon by old time society and the church. The influence of this old world thinking is still in force today as you see this supposed telekinetic ability of living persons still included in the extended definitions of the word poltergeist in many books and at many paranormal websites.

Many people also still seem to hold the idea of a poltergeist as being a specific type of spirit or entity. Any spirit can make sounds, open doors, rap on the wall, throw something off the table etc. This kind of activity shows up in almost all haunt cases. I would say it is common and not limited to the actions of one kind of entity. Therefore, why do we still see the word poltergeist used at times as a term for a particular type of entity or haunting? A poltergeist is not an entity in a class by itself, so why are we still offering this information in books and at websites and why are we continuing to present it as a valid term and concept? Old ideas and superstitions die hard it seems and in this field they hang on forever.

Another phenomenon continually misrepresented, especially by novices in the field is the ever present and no longer exciting orb. Orbs that appear in photographs are most often dust, humidity, lens flare or a dirty camera lens. However there are some orbs which do not fit the mold for any of these mishaps. There is some kind of real orb energy which can be photographed and which appears to be some sort of plasma that gives off its own light and can leave trails behind it in photographs. These same plasmas can be seen on video tape moving at different rates of speed and appearing in different colors and sizes. They are interesting but they are old news in the paranormal field and there is no evidence whatsoever of them being representative of spirit activity. I suppose it is possible but they appear in any location at any given time. They are not something we can identify or attribute to a haunting.

Everyday, people and paranormal novices are still thrilled with their orb photographs, whether they are real orbs or camera artifacts. You see them posted everywhere from Facebook to paranormal websites, usually with some comment alluding to their connection to a supposed haunting in that spot. Some people take it even further; claiming to see faces in these orbs. The human mind matrixes faces in just about everything, so I dismiss this outright as possible evidence of anything spirit related. It is time to move on. The nature of the orb should be a study in itself. It should be categorized as an unknown energy anomaly, not just thrown in to the list of ghost phenomena as representative evidence of something spirit related. If they were spirit energy; since orbs seem to be literally everywhere, we would have to then assume that everywhere is haunted which is just a bit too overzealous for me.

Next we have the term crossing over that you hear all the time. This term also comes from an old world view originally based on religious beliefs which became popular with some psychic mediums who came out with the new age movement. We continue to propagate this idea of spirits who are trying to interact with the living as being either lost, stranded, stuck or unable to cross over into what we picture as heaven or the afterlife plane. To take it a step further, there are those who claim the spirits need our help to make this transition. There are many who claim to actually help to cross over these spirits and some even do it for a monetary price.

I cannot help but think that in the afterlife there must be other spirits and even higher spirits who can help the newcomer get to wherever he or she needs to be. Why would a spirit in the next phase of life need us to help them accomplish this? It would be like a high school student asking a first grader to help with their homework. How can we advise or direct anyone to anywhere in a world we have no knowledge of in the first place? Even a near death experience is not a complete transition into the afterlife, so none of us have truly ever been there regardless of what we would like to believe. We cannot conceive of what lies in the next world let alone assume we know where any spirit is supposed to go or how they should get there.

Some people assume to know so much about this world we have never seen or experienced, and they spout these assumptions as if they were fact or reality. From what I have learned from EVP responses; spirits have free will and are usually right where they are supposed to be or want to be and have no need of our intervention in any way. We all have our set ideas of heaven and hell which stem from our religious beliefs. I can tell you, many of my previous notions have been blown away in the thirty plus years of doing this work. It never affected my steadfast belief in a higher power but it made me realize just how much we don’t know about the world to come. Man is a stubborn and egotistical species and we do not like to admit we haven’t got it all figured out. Some people are totally closed off to anything which might challenge their religious beliefs. In the paranormal field many of us are co-dependants when it comes to hanging onto concepts which are near and dear to our individual religious teachings.

In all of my years of working in this field and after many spirit haunting investigations and listening to thousands of EVP’s, not once has any spirit implied they needed help to cross over to anywhere. Many spirits tell me things which enlighten me on this subject which I will go into later in another chapter.

A portal is allegedly a doorway between the worlds, through which spirits and other inter-dimensional life forms can pass between different planes of existence or dimensions. They are thought to be located in places where much death has occurred for whatever reason and are said to be permanent passageways created by a higher power or force. They are also said to be located at interfaces and other suggested power centers in our world.

There are people who believe that spirits pass through these portals into our world of the living. While this may or may not be true it is an interesting subject to ponder. I have also heard people who claim to be able to close a portal.
