    Water Technology

    Introduction

    F

or the all living beings, water is very must, almost all human activities whether domestic, or agricultural and industrial as well need water. Although water is most amazing gift of nature and huge compound but only less than 1% of the water resources of world is available for use. Hence, water has to be used mindfully and economically.

Different Uses and Specifications of Water

Textile industry requires for dying of clothes and the water used by this industry need soft and free from organic matters. Hard water reduces the solubility of acidic dyes and organic matters impart bed smell.

Boilers need without hardness water because, efficient heat transfers is prevented by scale formation. Hard water can lead to corrosion of boiler material.

Paper industry requires water free from SiO2 because it creates cracks in paper, can reduce color and brightness of paper.

Sugar industry needs soft water because hard water causes problem in the crystallization of sugar.

Pharmaceutical industry requires pure, colorless, tasteless and odorless water and should be free from pathogenic organisms.

Accordingly water needs to be treated to remove unwanted impurities. Water treatment is must process by which all types of unwanted impurities are removed and make it better for domestic or industrial uses.

    Source of Water

The river water has dissolved minerals like bicarbonates of sodium, magnesium, calcium, chlorides sulphates and iron on other side lake water contains high quantity of organic matters. Rain water is the purest form of natural water, when it comes down, it mixed with organic and inorganic suspended particles and some amount of industrial gases.

Underground water is clear and free from organic impurities due to filtering event of the soil. The sea water is very impure because a large amount of salts dissolved in and due to continuous evaporation and impurity flush away through rivers.
