The Fate of the Elves 3 - Peter Gotthardt
The Forgotten Tombs
This is the story of one of the worst eras in the long history of the Elves. It occurred when a mighty enemy entered the land of the Elves with his army. His aim was to enslave all the Elves. The Elves were filled with grief and anger. The enemy ravaged their beautiful land and their freedom was at stake. Without hesitation, they fought back. They knew that they were fighting for the fate of the Elves.
Four Elves and a Troll were walking through a vast cavern in the mountains. All around them, everything was completely silent. The cavern seemed endless.
The two Dark Elves, Crystal and Dolomite, went first. In the middle came Bramble and his friend Wisecrack, the Troll boy. Sir Blackthorn brought up the rear.
Bramble looked around in wonder. They were inside of a large mountain. And yet, it was not completely dark. The walls and ceiling in the cavern were glimmering with a dim, yellow light.

he said. Where is that light coming from?
Let me show you,
said Dolomite.
He ran his hand over the cliff wall. When he removed it, it too shone with the same dim yellow light.
It is tiny fungi that grow on the rocks,
he explained. They glow in the dark. They can grow everywhere in here, all they need is a tiny bit of moisture in the air.
Amazing!
said Bramble.
Indeed. The world of the Dark Elves is full of wonders,
said Dolomite. There are caves and grottos here by the thousand. They stretch for mile after mile through the mountains.
What about the burial chamber we’re trying to find?
Blackthorn asked. I hope you know where it is.
Unfortunately not,
replied Crystal. King Iridium and Queen Pearl were laid to rest many, many years ago. Since then, we Dark Elves have moved to new caves. No one remembers where their tombs are anymore. But they must be in one of the abandoned caves. That’s where we’re heading now.
They
