Todo comienza cuando Ricardo, un joven siciliano que se encuentra cautivo en Turquía, le cuenta a su amigo Mahamut la historia de su cautiverio. Él vivía en Trapani y estaba enamorado de la hermosa Leonisa, pero sin ser correspondido, ya que la joven estaba interesada en Cornelio. Durante una pelea entre Ricardo y Cornelio, los turcos irrumpen en el lugar y capturan a Ricardo y Leonisa, mientras que Cornelio llega a huir a tiempo. Las desventuras lo separan y Ricardo cree que Leonisa a muerto luego de una tempestad, pero el destino los reunirá muy pronto en una nueva ciudad...Publicada en 1613, este relato corto está inspirado en los estilos de la novela morisca y la bizantina. Situada en 1570, después de la conquista de Chipre por los turcos, en vísperas a la batalla de Lepanto, esta novela corta de amor y aventuras narra, con lenguaje sencillo, las adversidades que los jóvenes, Ricardo y Leonisa, deberán superar. -

Miguel de Cervantes

Miguel de Cervantes (1547-1616) was a Spanish writer whose work included plays, poetry, short stories, and novels. Although much of the details of his life are a mystery, his experiences as both a soldier and as a slave in captivity are well documented; these events served as subject matter for his best-known work, Don Quixote (1605) as well as many of his short stories. Although Cervantes reached a degree of literary fame during his lifetime, he never became financially prosperous; yet his work is considered among the most influential in the development of world literature.
