    Mathura – Krishna’s Homeland

Many thousands of years ago, there lived a king in Mathura, the homeland of Yadavas. His name was Ugrasena. He had a brother named Devaka. People of Mathura were having a great time under the rule of King Ugrasena. One day, his wife Pavanrekha gave birth to a baby boy. They christened him ‘Kansa’. O dear brother! Leave me. Don’t you trust me enough? cried helpless Devaki.

Don’t kill her O Kansa! She’s your dear sister, pleaded Vasudeva.

The cruel prince of Mathura did not pay heed to Devaki’s cries and Vasudeva’s plea. He
