Ephesians 3:14-21

14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,

16 That he (GOD) would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might (POWER) by his Spirit in the inner man (IN YOUR INNER BEING);

17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

18 May be able to comprehend with all saints (GOD'S HOLY PEOPLE/CHRISTIANS) what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;

19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth (SURPASSES) knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

20 Now unto him (GOD) that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end (FOREVER & EVER). Amen.

Colossians 2:6-7

2 Timothy 3:16-17

16 All scripture (IN THE BIBLE) is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable (USEFUL) for doctrine (TEACHING), for reproof (REBUKE), for correction, for instruction (TEACHING/TRAINING) in righteousness:

[Note: A Christian is someone who believes in the Gospel (i.e., the good news of salvation: that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, and God raised Him from the dead to save us and give us everlasting life), repented, and confessed all his/her sins to God, and received Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. He/she believes in the Trinity (i.e., God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost/Spirit are one) and loves God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. A Christian is also called a believer, follower, disciple of Jesus Christ, a child of God, and God’s saint/elect.]

    Dedication & Appreciation

I dedicate this book to my precious Father God, Lord Jesus Christ, and Holy Ghost/Spirit. You are my King, Lord and Saviour, Comforter, Counsellor, Best Friend: my everything! Thank You, Lord, for answering my prayers and showing me Your will and Your way. Without Your direction and the circumstances that You have put me in, I would never have written this book. I love You, Lord!

Thank you, my loving but assertive father-in-law, Khai Chee (aka, Loh Yeh), for throwing me all the difficult questions about God, Jesus Christ, and the Bible since 2018, which prompted me to research and gather information to share with you and kick-started the writing of this book. I pray that one day, my dear Loh Yeh, you, and Lai Lai (i.e., my mother-in-law, Lean) and all other family members, relatives, and friends will receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, and love Him as much as I do!

Thank you, dear husband, Wai Choong, for allowing me to leave the corporate world to pursue my writing and for supporting me over the last few years. It has not been easy, but I believe God will bless you abundantly for this! To my precious kiddos, Jolene and another (who does not wish to be named): you are beautiful inside out and an excellent bonus from God to papa and me.

To my parents, Anne and Jimmy: thank you for your love, care, support, and prayers and for taking care of our kiddos while I was working. To my darling baby sister, Su Mei, my brother-in-law, Ta Yeap, and my adorable nephews, Daniel and David: thank you for your love, care, and prayers. I appreciate and love all of you very much!

I appreciate you, Evelyn, and Danny (my sister-in-law and brother-in-law) for patiently and generously taking care of my parents-in-law all these years. God bless you abundantly for your love and kindness!

    After Salvation, What Next?

    (Guidelines for Individuals)

After receiving Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour (i.e., receiving salvation with a wonderful place prepared for us to spend eternal life of joy with God and Jesus Christ), what’s next? What are God and Jesus Christ’s commandments to us? What are God’s expectations of Christians on earth? How can we please Him?

    Bible

The Bible is the Word of God:

(It is written by holy men of God, inspired by the Spirit of God.)

17 That (SO THAT) the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished (EQUIPPED) unto all good works.

    2 Peter 1:20-21

20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation (NOT THE PROPHET’S OWN INTERPRETATION).

21 For the prophecy came not in old time by (DID NOT COME / DID NOT ORIGINATE FROM) the will of man: but holy men of God spake (SPOKE) as they were moved by the Holy Ghost (I.E., THE SPIRIT OF GOD).

The Bible is alive and powerful:

    Hebrews 4:12

12 For the word of God (I.E., THE BIBLE, ALL BIBLE SCRIPTURE) is quick (ALIVE/LIVING), and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The Bible is believed to be first written in ancient Hebrew around 600 BC. (Now, new evidence shows it may be as old as 1000 BC.) It is a collection of 66 books written by about 40 different writers (30 wrote the Old Testament, and 10 wrote the New Testament), in several languages (of origin), across several continents, over 1500 years. The writers came from various backgrounds, cultures, and professions (e.g., fishermen, shepherd, trader, preacher, kings, government officer, and physician) and have different personalities and writing styles. Despite all these, in many cases, they wrote on similar incidences, locations, people, festivals, etc. The Bible consists of history, poetry, letters, songs, prophecies, and literature. It is about God and His plans and purpose for humanity, on earth, and for eternity. From the first book, i.e., Genesis, to the last book, i.e., Revelation, the Bible shows God’s plan to win sinful humanity back to Himself through Jesus Christ, the Saviour. It deals with these questions: Who are we? Where did we come from? Why are we here? Where are we going? How should we live? The Bible has 2 parts: the Old Testament (39 Books) and the New Testament (27 Books). [Note: Testament = Covenant = God’s covenant/agreement/promise with God’s people and God’s will for His people and humanity.] Overall, the Old Testament shares before and leading to the coming of Jesus Christ to earth, and the New Testament shares Jesus Christ’s coming/arrival to earth and where He is going and taking His children. The Bible is eternally relevant: before, during the time it is written, today, and in the future.

Everything in the Bible Is From God, Pure, True, Without Error (in the Original Manuscripts), Shall Be Fulfilled & Endures/Remains Forever

    Psalm 12:6

6 The words of the Lord (BIBLE SCRIPTURES) are pure words (FLAWLESS/TRUE): as silver tried (REFINED) in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

    Proverbs 30:5-6

5 Every word of God (ALL SCRIPTURE IN THE BIBLE) is pure (FLAWLESS/TRUE): he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove (REBUKE) thee, and thou be found a liar.

John 17:17 (PART OF JESUS CHRIST’S PRAYER FOR HIS DISCIPLES)

17 Sanctify (SET APART AS HOLY FOR GOD) them (JESUS CHRIST’S DISCIPLES) through thy (GOD’S) truth: thy word (ALL SCRIPTURE IN THE BIBLE) is truth.

1 Peter 1:24-25 (THE ENDURING WORD: PETER QUOTED ISAIAH 40:6–8)

24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth (WITHERS), and the flower thereof falleth away:

25 But the word of the Lord (THE WORD OF OUR GOD: ALL SCRIPTURE IN THE BIBLE) endureth (REMAINS/STANDS) for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

    The Bible is factual:

The Bible talks about real people, places, events, and conversations. It is confirmed of its authenticity consistently by many historians and archaeologists. More and more archaeological evidence is being discovered/identified to confirm the accuracy of stories and information in the Bible, e.g., names of kings, cities, locations, government officials, and festivals mentioned in the Bible, initially thought not to exist, are being discovered. Various copies of manuscripts have been found and confirmed the accuracy and consistency of the Bible.

Read, Study & Meditate on Bible Scriptures Day & Night & Obey

    Joshua 1:8

8 This book of the law (SIMILARLY, ALL SCRIPTURE IN THE BIBLE) shall not depart out of thy mouth (NEVER STOP RECITING); but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to (BE CAREFUL/SURE TO OBEY) all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

    Psalm 1:1-3

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel (WHO DOES NOT FOLLOW THE ADVICE) of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way (PATH) of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful (NOR JOIN THE COMPANY OF MOCKERS).

2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord (THE INSTRUCTIONS/WORD OF GOD, BIBLE SCRIPTURE); and in his law doth he meditate (PONDERS) day and night.

3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

    Psalm 119:11,105

11 Thy (GOD’S) word (BIBLE SCRIPTURE) have I hid (TREASURED) in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Matthew 4:4 (Similar Scripture: Luke 4:4)

4 But he (JESUS CHRIST) answered (WHEN TEMPTED BY SATAN) and said, It is written (DEUTERONOMY 8:2–3), Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God (ALL SCRIPTURE IN THE BIBLE).

(Guideline) Read & Study the Bible

Read the Bible with a purpose: to seek God, for Him to reveal Himself to us through Jesus Christ so that we can be closer to Him, and find out what He wants to inform, instruct and teach us. Believe in faith, obey Him, and apply His teachings in our daily life. Let His Words fill our minds and touch our hearts.

Before we read, pray to God to help us understand and speak to us through the Bible Scriptures.

Read the Bible out loud! There is power in the Word of God!

IMPORTANT: To fully comprehend a particular Bible Scripture, it is advisable to expand our reading and understanding to the entire passage or chapter of the Bible. It will give us a bigger picture and a better perspective of what God is telling us: why and what leads to the particular Scripture. If we read and rely only on a single or couple of verses, we may inaccurately try to fit them into our current situation.

    Bible reading orders for consideration:

Read from the first book (i.e., Genesis) to the last book (i.e., Revelation) of the Bible. [If we are reading from a hard copy Bible and would like to complete reading it in one year, take the total number of pages of the Bible and divide by 365 days for an estimated number of pages to read per day. Alternatively, read three to four chapters per day (Total chapters in the Bible 1,189, divide by 365 days = 3.3 chapters per day)]

Read based on the chronological order of when the books of the Bible were written. Search online for free reading plans based on this order.

Read based on the chronological order of the occurrence of the events in the Bible. Again, we can search online for free reading plans.

Our own preferred order: E.g., when I was a new believer, I started reading from the book of Genesis, then jumped to Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Ephesian, Revelation, and then the rest of the books, from beginning to the end of the Bible.

Memorise and meditate on Bible Scriptures when reading the Bible. Some websites, and phone and laptop applications provide daily Bible Scriptures, a.k.a. verse of the day via email or pop-up screen on your laptop or phone.

Search online for commentaries or explanations to have a better understanding of the Scriptures. I suggest referring to two or more sources for comparison. Be wary of distorted views: Double-check with mature Christians if necessary. There are also Bible-study groups we can follow/join in the social media: they are good sources of information (and prayer support).

11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God (BIBLE SCRIPTURE/THE GOSPEL).

12 Those (SEEDS THAT FELL) by the way side (PATH/ROAD SIDE) are they (PEOPLE) that hear (THE WORD OF GOD); then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.

13 They (SEEDS THAT FELL) on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation (TRIAL/TESTING) fall away.

14 And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares (WORRIES) and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection (NO FRUIT TO MATURITY).

15 But that on the good ground (GOOD SOIL) are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience (PATIENTLY PRODUCE FRUIT).

Listen & Obey the Word of Jesus Christ (Which is the Word of God).

God / Jesus / His Word is a Firm/Secure Foundation.

    Luke 6:46-49

46 And why call ye me (JESUS), Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

47 Whosoever cometh to me (JESUS CHRIST), and heareth (HEARS) my sayings (WORDS), and doeth (OBEYS) them, I will shew (SHOW) you to whom he is like:

48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock (JESUS CHRIST): and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

We Are Responsible to Share the Word of God, I.e., Bible Scriptures (Instead of Hiding Them)

When we have read and understood Bible Scriptures, we are responsible to share them with others instead of hiding them.

    Luke 8:16-18

16 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel (BOWL), or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.

17 For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest (REVEALED); neither any thing hid (HIDDEN), that shall not be known and come abroad (BROUGHT TO LIGHT/INTO THE OPEN).

18 Take heed (BE CAREFUL) therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath (HAS A TEACHABLE HEART FOR THE WORD OF GOD), to him shall be given (MORE UNDERSTANDING); and whosoever hath not (HAS NOT), from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.

Obey the Word of God & We Will Be Blessed in What We Do

    James 1:22,25

22 But be ye doers of the word (OBEY GOD’S WORDS IN THE BIBLE), and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty (FREEDOM), and continueth therein (CONTINUES IN IT), he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

Gospel (I.e., the Good News of Salvation)

    What Is the Gospel?

    The Gospel is:

part of the Bible: the first four books of the New Testament, i.e., Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John

    the good news of salvation

the power of God that brings salvation

received by the revelation of Jesus Christ

    Romans 1:16-17

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto (THAT BRINGS) salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

17 For therein (IN THE GOSPEL) is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just (RIGHTEOUS) shall live by faith.

    1 Thessalonians 1:5…

5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; …

    Galatians 1:11-12

11 But I (APOSTLE PAUL) certify (MAKE KNOWN TO) you, brethren (BROTHERS & SISTERS IN CHRIST), that the gospel which was preached of (BY) me is not after (DID NOT COME / DID NOT ORIGINATE FROM) man.

12 For I neither received it of (FROM) man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

The Great Commission: Preach/Share/Teach the Gospel

All Christians are called to preach, share, and teach the Gospel, i.e., the good news of salvation to unbelievers. Refer to: How to Prepare & Share the Gospel, I.e., the Good News of Salvation?

    Matthew 4:19

19 And he (JESUS CHRIST) saith unto them (HIS DISCIPLES-SIMON PETER & ANDREW), Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men (CATCH/WIN SOULS FOR HIM).

    Matthew 24:14

14 And this gospel of the kingdom (OF GOD) shall be preached in all the world for a witness (AS A TESTIMONY) unto all nations; and then shall the end come (THE END OF THE WORLD).

    Matthew 28:16-20 (THE GREAT COMMISSION)

16 Then the eleven disciples (OF JESUS CHRIST) went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed (DIRECTED) them.

17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.

18 And Jesus came and spake unto (SPOKE TO) them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

19 Go ye therefore, and teach (MAKE DISCIPLES OF) all nations, baptizing them (LIKELY WATER BAPTISM) in the name of the Father, and of the Son (JESUS CHRIST), and of the Holy Ghost:

20 Teaching them to observe (OBEY) all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

    Mark 16:14-18 (THE GREAT COMMISSION)

14 Afterward he (JESUS CHRIST) appeared unto the eleven (HIS 11 APOSTLES, EXCLUDING JUDAS ISCARIOT WHO HAD BETRAYED JESUS & HANGED HIMSELF) as they sat at meat (THE TABLE), and upbraided (REBUKED) them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen (FROM THE DEAD).

15 And he (JESUS CHRIST) said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature (EVERYONE).

16 He that believeth and is baptized (LIKELY WITH WATER) shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

    17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my (JESUS CHRIST’S) name shall they cast out devils (DEMONS); they shall speak with new tongues;

18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

[Note: v16 "… he that believeth not shall be damned." – thus, to avoid being damned (i.e., thrown into the lake of fire), we need to believe in the Gospel, i.e., the good news of salvation and receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.]

    Acts 1:8

8 But ye (JESUS CHRIST’S APOSTLES, SIMILARLY, ALL CHRISTIANS) shall receive power, after that (WHEN) the Holy Ghost (HOLY SPIRIT) is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me (TELL PEOPLE ABOUT JESUS) both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea (JUDEA), and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part (TO THE ENDS) of the earth.

    Acts 20:24

24 But none of these things (UNCERTAINTY/DANGER OF HARDSHIPS/TRIBULATIONS) move me (APOSTLE PAUL, SIMILARLY, ALL CHRISTIANS), neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

    1 Corinthians 4:1-2

1 Let a man so account of (CONSIDER) us, as of the ministers (SERVANTS) of Christ, and stewards (MANAGERS/TRUSTEES) of the mysteries (TRUTH OF THE GOSPEL) of God.

2 Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

Faith Comes From Hearing the Gospel. Therefore, Preach It!

    Romans 10:13-15,17

13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord (JESUS CHRIST) shall be saved.

14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written (ISAIAH 52:7), How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings (GOOD NEWS) of good things!

17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by (THROUGH) the word of God (THE GOSPEL/GOOD NEWS OF SALVATION).

    Imitate Jesus Christ:

Interact/Mix With Non-Christians & Preach the Gospel to Them

    Matthew 9:10-13

10 And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat (DINING TABLE) in the (MATTHEW’S) house, behold, many publicans (TAX COLLECTORS) and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples.

11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?

12 But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole (WHO ARE HEALTHY) need not a physician (DO NOT NEED A DOCTOR), but they that are sick.

13 But go ye and learn what that meaneth, (HOSEA 6:6:) I will have (I DESIRE) mercy (COMPASSION), and not (ANIMAL) sacrifice (BURNT OFFERINGS): for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

The Harvest Is Plenty & Ready, but the Labourers Are Few

Matthew 9:37-38 (Similar Scripture: Luke 10:2)

    37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest (SOULS TO SAVE) truly is plenteous (PLENTIFUL), but the labourers (CHRISTIANS TO SHARE THE GOSPEL/GOOD NEWS OF SALVATION) are few;

38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

    John 4:35

35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest (SOULS TO SAVE)? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to (RIPE FOR) harvest. (LET’S DO OUR PART NOW!)

The Gospel (Preaching of Christ Crucified on the Cross)

    Is God’s Power & Wisdom

    1 Corinthians 1:18,22-25

18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish (NON-CHRISTIANS/UNBELIEVERS WHO ARE PERISHING,) foolishness; but unto us which are saved (CHRISTIANS/BELIEVERS) it is the power of God.

22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:

    23 But we preach (JESUS) Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;

24 But unto them which are called (CHRISTIANS/BELIEVERS), both Jews and Greeks, Christ (IS) the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

Warning: We Must Not Preach a Different Gospel

    Galatians 1:8-9

8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed (UNDER GOD’S CURSE).

9 As we said before, so say I (APOSTLE PAUL) now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Warning: We Must Not Neglect Salvation (The Gospel),

nor Harden Our Hearts & Unbelieve

    Hebrews 2:1-4

1 Therefore we (CHRISTIANS) ought to give the more earnest heed (CAREFUL ATTENTION) to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip (IN CASE WE DRIFT AWAY).

    2 For if the word spoken by angels (THE LAW GIVEN TO MOSES - IN THE OLD TESTAMENT) was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward (REPAYMENT/RETRIBUTION);

    3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord (JESUS CHRIST), and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

4 God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?

    Hebrews 3:7-8,12-15,18-19

7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,

8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation (REBELLION), in the day of temptation (TRIAL/TESTING) in the wilderness:

12 Take heed (BEWARE), brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

13 But exhort (ENCOURAGE) one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

    14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;

15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.

18 And to whom sware he (TO WHOM DID GOD SWEAR) that they should (WOULD) not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not?

19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

    Trinity

Christians must believe in the Trinity.

    1 John 5:7

7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father (GOD), the Word (JESUS CHRIST), and the Holy Ghost (HOLY SPIRIT): and these three are one.

Trinity means 3-in-1, i.e., God (the Father), Jesus Christ (the Son), and the Holy Ghost/Spirit are One.

1x1x1 = 1 (One God) Take for example, an object; whether we see it in

1-Dimension, 2-Dimension, or 3-Dimension, it is still the same object.

Jesus Christ is God. The Holy Ghost/Spirit is God.

John 1:1-5,9-14 (JESUS CHRIST IS GOD & THE WORD OF GOD)

1 In the beginning was the Word (JESUS CHRIST), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 The same was (THE WORD/JESUS CHRIST EXISTED) in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by him (THROUGH THE WORD/JESUS CHRIST); and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him (JESUS CHRIST), and the world knew him not (DID NOT RECOGNISE HIM).

11 He came unto his own, and his own (HIS OWN PEOPLE=THE ISRAELITES/JEWS) received him not.

12 But as many as received him, to them gave he (JESUS GAVE) power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

13 Which (WHO) were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

14 And the Word (JESUS CHRIST) was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld (SAW) his glory, the glory as of the only begotten (SON) of the Father (GOD),) full of grace and truth.

    John 10:30

30 I (JESUS CHRIST) and my Father (GOD) are one.

John 14:10-11 (JESUS CHRIST’S ONENESS WITH FATHER GOD)

10 Believest thou not that I (JESUS CHRIST) am in the Father (GOD), and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he (GOD) doeth the works.

11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake (THE EVIDENCE OF THE WORKS THEMSELVES).

Acts 5:3-4 (THE HOLY GHOST/SPIRIT IS GOD)

3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

    Romans 8:9 -11

(THE HOLY GHOST/SPIRIT = SPIRIT OF GOD = SPIRIT OF CHRIST)

9 But ye (CHRISTIANS/BELIEVERS) are not in (NOT CONTROLLED BY) the flesh (YOUR SINFUL NATURE), but in (BY) the Spirit, if so be that (IF INDEED) the Spirit of God (HOLY GHOST/SPIRIT) dwell (LIVES) in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his (HE DOES NOT BELONG TO JESUS CHRIST).

10 And if Christ be in you, (EVEN THOUGH) the body is dead (SUBJECT TO DEATH) because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

11 But if the Spirit of him (GOD) that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken (GIVE LIFE TO) your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

    1 Corinthians 2:10-12

10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit (HOLY GHOST/SPIRIT): for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

Hebrews 1:8-12 (GOD CALLS JESUS CHRIST GOD)

8 But unto the Son he (GOD) saith (REFER TO: PSALM 45:6-7 BELOW), Thy (JESUS CHRIST’S) throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness (JUSTICE) is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness (JOY) above thy fellows (OTHERS).

10 And, Thou, Lord (JESUS CHRIST), in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:

    11 They (THE EARTH, HEAVENS/UNIVERSE) shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth (WEAR OUT LIKE) a garment;

12 And as a vesture (ROBE) shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art (REMAIN) the same, and thy years shall not fail (WILL NEVER END).

    Psalm 45:6-7 (OLD TESTAMENT)

6 Thy (JESUS CHRIST’S) throne, O God (JESUS IS REFERRED TO AS GOD), is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.

7 Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God (THE FATHER), thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

    God’s Covenants & Commandments/Laws

    Covenant/Testament = God’s (1st party) covenant/agreement/promise with His chosen people (2nd party) and God’s will for them.

Commandment = Instruction/law/regulation (that must be obeyed)

God’s Covenant With Noah & Creation/the Earth (Everlasting Covenant)

After the worldwide flood (that destroyed every human and living creature on earth except Noah, his immediate family and the animals and birds in the ark):

    Genesis 9:1-19

1 And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish (FILL) the earth.

2 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast (ANIMAL) of the earth, and upon every fowl (BIRD) of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.

3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat (FOOD) for you; even as (JUST AS I GAVE YOU) the green herb (PLANT) have I given (I NOW GIVE) you all things. [NOTE: BEFORE THE FLOOD, IT IS LIKELY HUMANS DO NOT EAT MEAT. REFER TO: GENESIS 1:29 & GENESIS 3:18-19]

4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. (YOU MUST NOT EAT BLOOD WHICH IS THE LIFE OF THE FLESH/LIVING THING)

5 And surely your blood of your lives will I require (GOD WILL REQUIRE THE BLOOD OF ANYONE WHO TAKES ANOTHER PERSON’S LIFE); at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man. (IF A WILD ANIMAL KILLS A PERSON, IT MUST DIE. ANYONE WHO MURDERS ANOTHER HUMAN BEING MUST DIE.)

6 Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man (FOR GOD MADE HUMAN BEINGS IN HIS OWN IMAGE).

7 And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.

8 And God spake unto (SPOKE TO) Noah, and to his sons with him, saying,

    9 And I, behold, I (GOD) establish my covenant with you, and with your seed (DESCENDANTS) after you;

10 And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl (BIRDS), of the cattle (LIVESTOCK), and of every beast (ANIMAL) of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth.

11 And I will establish my covenant with you, neither (NEVER) shall all flesh (ALL LIFE) be cut off (DESTROYED) any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.

12 And God said, This is the token (SIGN) of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual (ALL) generations (TO COME):

13 I do set my bow (RAINBOW) in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth.

14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:

15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.

16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.

17 And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.

18 And the sons of Noah, that went forth (CAME OUT) of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan.

19 These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread (FROM THESE 3 SONS OF NOAH THE WHOLE EARTH WAS POPULATED).

The Old Testament/Covenant, Commandments & Laws

In the Old Testament, besides the above covenant, God made covenants with His chosen people, the Israelites/Jews, either directly or via prophets, and gave His commandments/laws/regulations to them.

Refer to: Introduction to the People of Israel (Israelites/Jews)

The Law of God (in the Old Testament) / Mosaic Law

Refer to: Introduction to the People of Israel (Israelites/Jews) – God’s Covenant With Israel (the Israelites Are God’s Chosen People)

God’s covenant with the people of Israel (the Israelites) at Mount Sinai (also known as Mount Horeb) - He required the Israelites to obey the Ten Commandments, decrees, instructions, laws and regulations (which form part of the covenant). They are found in the first five books of the Bible, i.e., Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, and can be generalised as the law of God and categorised as follows:

[Note: Some laws overlap in the following categories.]

Moral laws: are moral/ethical responsibilities based on God's character that the Israelites (similarly, all Christians/believers) must follow/obey for eternity, thus they are still applicable today. E.g., the Ten Commandments.

Civil/Judicial laws: are rules on acceptable/proper behaviours for daily living, social life, human relationships, and settling disputes. E.g., Exodus 21, Deuteronomy 19.

Ceremonial/Ritual laws: are ceremonies, festivals, rituals and rules for worshipping God (including ceremonial items, offerings, sacrifices, dietary restrictions, penalties for sins, and cleansing of sins). E.g., Exodus 25 to 31.

Obey the 10 Commandments (Applicable Today)

The Ten Commandments are summarised as follows (with similar New Testament Scriptures in brackets to show that they are still applicable today):

Shall not worship other gods (Refer Matthew 4:10 & Luke 4:8)

    2. Shall not worship idols

    (Refer 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 & Galatians 5:20-21)

    3. Shall not misuse God's name (Refer Matthew 5:33-37 & 1 Timothy 6:1)

    4. Keep the Sabbath holy

(Refer Mark 2:23-28 - Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath, Luke 4:16,

& Hebrews 4:9-11 - Jesus is our Sabbath Rest)

    5. Honour your father and mother (Refer Ephesians 6:1-3)

    6. Shall not kill (murder) (Refer Romans 13:8-10 & Galatians 5:21)

    7. Shall not commit adultery

    (Refer Romans 13:8-10, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 & Hebrews 13:4)

    8. Shall not steal

    (Refer Romans 13:8-10, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 & Ephesians 4:28)

    9. Shall not bear false witness (lie)

    (Refer Romans 13:8-10 & Ephesians 4:25)

    10. Shall not covet

(covet=desire/yearn to possess anything that belongs to others)

    (Refer Romans 13:8-10 & Ephesians 5:5)

Exodus 20:1-17 (Similar Scripture: Deuteronomy 5:6-22)

(THE 10 COMMANDMENTS - GOD SPOKE TO THE ISRAELITES INCLUDING MOSES AT MOUNT SINAI, ALSO KNOWN AS MOUNT HOREB)

1 And God spake (SPOKE) all these words, saying,

2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage (LAND OF SLAVERY).

3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven (CARVED) image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

    5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting (PUNISHING) the iniquity (SINS) of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

6 And shewing (SHOWING) mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain (SHALL NOT MISUSE GOD’S NAME); for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle (LIVESTOCK), nor thy stranger (FOREIGNER) that is within thy gates (LIVING AMONG YOU):
