About this ebook

A further colection of traditional rhyming and scanning poetry. In common with other poetry releases by this Author, these poems are accessible to the reader. The subject matter is very variable to keep both my mind and the reader's mind agile. Hidden meanings are of course to be found. A female perspective has been used for several of the poems. There are several 'people' poems to ponder over and these often have their roots in the Author's own life experience. As ever these poems have been written for the enjoyment of the reader.

Poetry in the Round - James Hathersage

    1

    Hidden Love.

    ––––––––

The candle casts a flickering light,

The wick burns slow, but bright,

    Lost tallow steals the evening,

    And slowly brings the night.

    -

A letter born of trusting love,

    On parchment, comes to life,

    Endearing words of gratitude,

    To ease another’s strife.

    -

Yet when you read such words of love,

    Remember all’s not seen,

    Unless you’re looking carefully,

    For what lies in between.

    2

    The Broom.

    ––––––––

I think I’d like to be a broom,

    Responsible for just one room,

To keep it swept and free from dust,

    A duster as a friend’s a must.

    -

If I could choose my bristle hair,

I’d choose three inch, all soft and fair,

With duster, times of rest I’d share

    the cupboard underneath the stair.

    -

But wait the duster’s played a trick,

And told me I’m a hairy stick,

Just as my life’s a perfect broom,

He’s dumped me for a new vacuum.

    ***

    3

    Thumb Things.

    ––––––––

Thumb things you take for granted,

    Thumb things you leave alone,

Thumb things are hot as furnaces,

Thumb things are cold as stone.

When thumb things seem to go all wrong,

Thumb times you have to fight,

Remember, when you get the thumbs up

    Everything’s all right.

    -

Thumb times I walk for many miles,

Thumb times it’s not so far,

Thumb times I’ll drive a bargain,

    Thumb times a motor car,

Thumb time ago I might recall,

    When I was very young,

I used to sit on mummy’s lap,

And thumb times suck my thumb.

    -

Thumb where in the book of life

    a chapter can be grim,

    Thumbing through the pages,

Life’s light can fade quite dim,

Yet thumb thing always comes along

and helps to pull me through,

    For somewhere in my heart

I keep a special place for you.

    The Sundial.

    ––––––––

I have all the time in the world you see,

And all that time was given to me

by a man who carved my sandstone base,

Then carved a pillar to put on the base,

And right on the top came my temporal face.

    -

My face is special and made out of metal,

And with it the time I can tell,

I will give you my secret if you keep it well.

    -

On the North of my face, from East to West,

    Run numerals right round the
