Introduction

There is a battle raging in today’s world. It is between God’s word and science. This battle has been going on for centuries as the unbelieving world gets bolder and bolder in their unbelief and make claims that science knows more than God does.

THIS HAS BEEN A DEVASTATING blow to the church as many of its young people have fallen for the sweet, tempting words scientists in universities and high schools have spoken to their students. They are leaving the faith in droves as they listen to those unbelieving scientists over the words of God, their church, and their pastors.

WHICH IS RIGHT, THE Bible, known as God’s word, or Science, known as mankind’s words? This is a question that every church and every believer must decide for themselves. They must look at the issues honestly and decide whom they will believe and serve.

FOR J.C. RYLE, WRITING in the 19th century, God’s word must be above all for the believer. If it is to lose its status of being true and inspired, then there are deep ramifications for everyone who says they accept Jesus Christ as their savior. He writes:

THIS QUESTION OF INSPIRATION is no light one. It involves tremendous grave consequences. If the Bible is not the word of God and inspired, the whole of Christendom for 1800 years has been under an immense delusion; half the human race has cheated and deceived, and churches are monuments of folly... (#1).

SECULAR SCIENCE HAS made great inroads into the church and its teachings. If the believer accepts that different gospel and rejects the Gospel Jesus and His disciples brought then they have nothing to offer the world.

A DOCUMENT WRONG IN a key area is going to be seen as wrong in all areas as the Bible is seen by many unbelievers and atheists. To them science and evidence is king, and faith is for those people they consider weak and in need of a crutch.

THE BIBLE TELLS US in the Book of Psalms that the fool has said there is no God (14:1) and that is exactly what secular science is saying. If God was wrong in Genesis, then He loses His right to be God and has sinned.

THE SUPPORTERS OF SECULAR science, whether a believer or not, has put themselves in a precarious position as Mr. Ryle continued on saying after those words quoted above, the following:

"IF THE BIBLE IS THE Word of God and inspired, all who refuse to believe it are in fearful danger; they are living on the brink of eternal misery (#2). This makes the battle between the word of God and science all too important.

THOSE THAT REJECT MOSES’ words have been told by Jesus in John 5:45ff that those who do not believe Moses will not believe His words. That is a message Christians need to consider when thinking about taking science over God’s word.

THIS BOOK IS DESIGNED to help the believer take God’s word over what science or secular science claims. There are many accepted ‘facts’ promoted by secular science that go contrary to God’s word which will be dealt with here and shown to be in error.

IN ITS PAGES, THIS book will address the topics of what is science, the supposedly expanding universe, the age of the earth, evolution and the church, as well as Einstein’s theory of relativity and other key scientific subjects that seek to challenge the believer’s faith and God’s communication to his creation.

IT IS VITAL THAT THE believer see the other side of the story instead of just accepting the unbeliever’s word for it. What confuses the issue are the many ‘Christian’ scientists who back the evolutionary and other claims made by secular science and reject God’s word on the issue.

THESE PEOPLE SHOULD not be listened to as they are not bringing the same gospel as Jesus and His disciples. They are bringing the unbelieving message to the church and calling it good. There will be a chapter on these men and women in this work as well.

CHRISTIANS MUST SEE the importance of deviating from what God has written and in the preface to the 2017 republication of Mr. Ryle’s paper on Inspiration we read the following words:

TO HIM, (MR. RYLE), the inspiration of scriptures was the very keel and foundation of Christianity, without which Christians had no warrant for doctrine and practice, no solid ground for present peace or hope, and no right to claim the attention of mankind (#3).

IF CHRISTIANS WANT to make an impact in this world for Christ, then they need to accept the Bible as God has written it and find the truth of His message. They cannot accept unbelievers’ words on our origins for then they are not presenting God’s word to the people who are unsaved but the words of those who do not have the truth and no help in finding it.

THEY ARE ALSO NOT PRESENTING God as He describes Himself but a god in another form that does not record what he has done correctly. This is dangerous grounds as the believer cannot express the love of God to those who do not believe as they are helping to keep those people locked in their sins.

LOVING THY NEIGHBOR means finding the truth that God did as He said and communicating that message to all who do not already believe. It is dangerous to take the wrong side in this battle between the Church and science.

GOING WITH THOSE WHO reject God’s word and do not follow the truth nor God’s rules is not the side to be on.

What is the Church?

To fully understand the resistance to science by the church, it is important to understand what the church really is. Many people have different ideas about what constitutes the church.

THE OXFORD DICTIONARY defines the word church as a building used to worship God, as does the Mirriam Webster dictionary. The latter book also adds in the definition that the term means a body of believers. These two definitions are what most people consider to be what the word church means.

WHAT JESUS SAID ABOUT the church was that ‘the gates of hell will not prevail against it" (Matthew 16:18 NASB). This verse tells us that he was not talking about a physical building as the church. Anyone can destroy a physical building.

THE KEY WORD IN THAT passage is the word ‘my’. Jesus knew that there would be many organizations using the term church thus He qualified which church He was talking about. His church will not be overcome by evil, and not for the lack of trying but because His people listen to Jesus’ words and do not depart from them.

IN FACT, JESUS SAID, My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me, (John 10:27) NASB). Since physical buildings do not have minds, or the ability to make decisions, Jesus is referring to the people His father created and who decided to accept Jesus as their savior.

THE CHURCH THEN IS all those who have heard Jesus’ voice and has followed Him. This church will not be overcome, even though many members fall away and stop following Jesus. There will always be a group that Jesus will call His church.

THE BIBLE IS FILLED with instructions on how this church is to proceed. It is impossible to go into all the instructions here and you should do your own bible study to find out what is required to be a member of that church.

THERE ARE TWO KEY INSTRUCTIONS that need to be focused on in this chapter that help the church understand its position when it comes to science, scientific research, theories and so on. The first is what Jesus said in John 8:32 and
