    Chapter one

Melina Travis was born into a wealthy family on April 6th, 1981. Her parents were both engineers working on a secretive project for the Canadian government. When she turned fifteen years old there was an accident in which both her parents had died. Her grief from losing her parents became overwhelming until one day she had found a secret compartment in her parent’s bedroom. Inside the compartment were several papers outlining the project they were working on. As she read the documents, she started putting the pieces together and realized that she needed to dig deeper into what they were doing. At sixteen she started sneaking around inquiring about her parent’s death and how exactly did they die.

She was told at the time of their death that there was an accident at the lab they worked at and they succumbed to some toxic gas along with two other lab personnel. Melina found out that her parents and the other two members were killed by a foreign faction attempting to stop the project. The project was to develop a weapon using dry ice as a catalyst. Since Melina was always around her parents, she learned from them and majored in science. She understood most of the documents on what her parents were attempting to do. She realized that they were developing a rifle that could shoot dry ice bullets. They were attempting to build a device that would house the bullets in a portable liquid nitrogen cell to keep the bullets in solid state until fired. There was a problem of distance the bullets would travel before breaking down and disintegrating. Her parents were able to propel the bullet seven hundred feet before it became ineffective.

Melina started working on her own experiments in her family lab that was in the old barn on the property. Since she was only fifteen when her parents died, she was appointed a guardian by the courts until she became eighteen. The guardian lived on the property as well but was never around and did not bother with Melina at all. The guardian whose name was Rena was appointed by the courts and worked for the same agency that her parents worked for. Melina was cautious of Rena and had a gut feeling not to trust her. She would sneak out and go to the lab whenever she could.

Melina was desperate to find out why her parents were killed, so she started to put the pieces together until she found what she was looking for. Melina worked on the project her parents had started except she simplified it to a dart gun. It took Melina several years until she had completed her prototype. Melina kept digging into her parent’s death and was now certain that certain members of the agency were behind her parent’s death including Rena. Now Melina wanted to find out why they died and who was behind it. The more she found out the more her rage grew. She started working on her own project developing a device that would fit on her wrist in the form of a brace. Melina was able to miniaturize a dart gun in the brace that she developed that would shoot a small dart the size of hypodermic needle.

Melina developed a special container that would house several dry ice needles and keep them up to seven hours before decaying. The dry ice needles she developed would easily fit into her dart gun and not decay for at least fifteen minutes. She practiced for hours making sure that everything worked as she wanted it too. She had set up targets in the lab and discovered that she was able to be accurate within fifteen feet of the target. She was now ready to find out who arranged for her parents to be killed. She would start with Rena. She went into the house and placed a call to Rena explain that she needed to see her right away.

Rena advised Melina that she would be at the farmhouse in an hour. An hour later Rena pulled into the drive of the farmhouse. Melina went out to meet her and asked her to come with her to the barn. Rena asked, What is this all about, you sounded upset on the phone? Melina never responded as the walked to the barn.

Once inside the barn Melina turned to Rena and said, I found something that you might be interested in seeing. Melina walked over to a post beside several bails of straw and pushed on a piece of wood sticking out from the post. A second later there was a low rumble as the bails of straw slid to one side revealing a cavity. A second later some lights came on from the cavity revealing a stairwell.

Rena was surprised at what she had just seen and asked, What the hell is this? Melina just grinned as she waved Rena to follow her down the stairs into her secret lab. Once inside Rena started looking around then said, Wow, it looks like someone has been working here just recently.

Melina turned towards Rena and pushed a button on the wall that closed the lab from the outside world. Melina gestured Rena to sit down on one of the lab stools at a table. Rena walked over as she kept talking in awe of what she was seeing. Rena climbed up onto the stool as Melina tuned her back towards Rena. Rena asked, "When and how did you find this place, it holds valuable information that could help the agency.

Melina slipped on her wrist brace then turned to Rena and said, "So you admit that you were placed to watch over me.

Rena paused for a moment then replied, You don’t know what your talking about, now let me out of here.

Melina said, Now why would I do that, so you can report that you have found my parent’s lab?

Rena stood up to leave as she barked at Melina, You are way over your head, and I will report this to the agency. She headed towards the stairwell when Melina aimed and fired one of her darts striking Rena in the center of her back. Rena stumbled as she tried to keep her balance, but Melina was on her before she could reach the stairs. Melina dragged Rena back and sat her down on the floor near the table.

She looked down at Rena who was now having trouble breathing and said, "You will tell me everything you know about my parents or I will kill you slowly, understood.

Rena laughed as she replied, They will find you and kill you just like your stupid parents. They should have given the agency what they wanted but were to stupid.

Melina loaded her dart gun again and fired a dart into Rena’s torso. Rena’s body jumped as the dry ice entered her body. Melina asked one last question, Who ordered them to die bitch?

Rena laughed as she said, When they find me and they will, they will know what you have accomplished. A second later Rena’s heart stopped beating.

Melina hid her body in fifty acres of bush at the back of the farm. She had gathered all of Rena’s belongings and placed them in Rena’s car and drove the car out to the lake. The lake was known for being extremely deep and dark. Melina drove the car to the edge of the embankment then slid out of the driver’s seat and placed it in drive. She watched as the car sank deep into the lake never to be seen again.

As she made her way back to the farm Melina made sure that no one saw her. Hours later she entered her home and planned for her to go on a trip, at least that is what it appeared to look like. Melina knew that Rena had a lover, a woman named Gale. She went out to the barn and made sure that there was nothing left that could make the agency think other wise.

She had already received documents with her new identity and from this moment on she would go by the name of Cara Woodrow. She would use this alias when tracking down the people responsible for her parent’s death. She had opened a bank account several weeks earlier under Cara’s name in which she also obtained a safety deposit box in a small town far from where she lived, that way no one would be able to connect the two identities’ as her. She loaded up her car then placed a call to Rena’s cell leaving a message, Rena where are you, you said you would meet me several hours ago," then hung up.

Several hours later she was parked under a large maple tree on a quiet street near where Gale lived. It was nighttime and very dark which was the perfect cover for Melina. She knew that no one at the agency was aware of Rena and Gale being lovers after all it was forbidden by the agency for any type of fraternization with other people from the agency. Rena made the big mistake in telling her one night in a drunken altercation about Gale.

Gale worked in the labs at the agency, but Melina was not sure which lab or who she was working with, but tonight she would find out everything Gale knows. Melina snuck around behind the small cottage style home of Gale’s searching for a way in without being discovered. There was a mud room at the back of the house that had a window leading to the kitchen. Melina found the window unlocked and slid it up slowly until it was high enough for her to crawl inside.

After looking around the room to get her bearings Melina made her way down the hall towards a dimly lit light from the bathroom. Across from the bathroom was the bedroom that Gale was sleeping in. The door was slightly ajar as Melina crept towards the bedroom; she heard a slight noise coming from within the room she paused for a moment then proceeded to look through the crack of the door all the while trying to figure out what the noise was. There was enough light from the bathroom allowing Melina to observe two bodies intertwined on the bed.

She was surprised to see Gale and another woman pleasuring each other. Melina could not make out who the other woman was, so she decided to hide in the house until the other woman left. After all she wanted Gale and not cause any problems for herself. Several hours later the two women made their way to the front hall and embraced each other for one last kiss. Melina heard Gale say, See you tomorrow sweetie, as the other woman left the house.

Gale walked into the bathroom as Melina snuck into the bedroom and hid behind an old armchair that was in the far corner of the room. A few minutes later Gale entered the room and crawled into the bed. Melina gave Gale about twenty minutes to fall asleep before pouncing on her chest. Gale was startled by Melina straddling her chest with her knees on Gale’s biceps. Before Gale could scream Melina had stuffed her mouth with some of the bed sheets. Melina whispered, I will remove the gag, but if you utter one sound, I will kill you, do you understand? Gale shook her head in acknowledgement. Melina said, Ok, and proceeded to remove the gag from Gale’s mouth.

Do you know who I am? asked Melina. Gale nodded yes. Good, said Melina, "If you tell me what I want to know I
