Our Father has chosen us to be members of his household, living stones in the holy temple of God, which is Christ Jesus. This is the appointed time when the mystery of Jesus Christ is being revealed to us by the Holy Spirit. Even as we anticipate a wonderful supernatural move of God on the earth, I pray that you too will come to the full understanding of the promises that have been prepared for us in Christ Jesus. He has called us out of death and the grave into everlasting life, making us joint heirs with Christ and sons of the kingdom of heaven. I pray that the Holy Spirit will join us together in love and unity so that the world will know that we are the perfect body of Jesus Christ. Let the peace of God be with you as you rest in the grace that is prepared for us in Christ Jesus.

Chapter 1

THE VISION

The Fast

IT ALL BEGAN in February 1995. I was twenty-six years old at the time and was desperately seeking the face of God. I was a Christian from birth, loved the Lord with all my heart, and did all the things that a good believer should do, but there was something missing in my life. I was so tired and frustrated of being the same old guy doing the same old stuff over and over again. Deep down inside I was searching for something more, something that would satisfy my inner being. I wanted to have an encounter with the living God, and I wanted him to fill that empty space within me. I read that God rewards those who diligently seek him (Heb. 11:6), and so I began to press into the heart of God.

My desire for the Lord turned to desperation, and it soon became noticeable to those around me. As much as I was seeking after God, I knew deep down inside me that he was also seeking after me. I then read an amazing book on fasting and prayer that helped me unlock the supernatural power of God in my life. Now, at that time I knew very little on fasting and prayer. I fasted occasionally whenever there was a need, and that would normally be for a day or so.

As I began reading the book I soon realized that there was great power in fasting and prayer. Jesus said in Matthew 6:5–18 that there is a reward for fasting, and there is another reward for prayer. I just wanted one reward, and that was to have a supernatural encounter with the living God. So I continued to meditate and wait upon the Lord, and in November 1995 the Holy Spirit led me to go on a twenty-one-day fast. This was to be a total abstinence fast, which meant that I would consume only water for the duration of twenty-one days, both night and day. I know that this may sound radical, but my desperation for the Lord drove me to this place of total abstinence. No soup, no juices, no fruit, no chewing gum; just water for twenty-one days.

So, when the time had come, I took leave from work and began the fast. I must be honest; I was a little uncertain on how it would all turn out, but I moved forward in faith. The first two to three days were difficult, but on the fourth day of the fast my hunger had left, and I didn’t desire food any longer. Instead of becoming weak I actually felt stronger. As I closed my eyes to pray, it felt as if I was standing in the presence of God making my requests known to him. It was a truly amazing experience, and I continued for twenty-one days. On the night of the twenty-first day of the fast I heard God speak to me audibly saying:

Preserve yourself for Me.

As he spoke these words it appeared as though they were being written down on the tablets of my heart. It was such an amazing and incredible experience hearing the voice of God, but I didn’t fully understand what this meant at that time. I was so overjoyed knowing that God had spoken to me, and this would never have happened if I hadn’t fasted and prayed. I shared my experience with all my friends and family, but little did I realize that this was just the beginning of many wonderful things to come.

Almost two years later I had an amazing supernatural experience where Jesus visited me in a vision, and I saw him face to face. This is my account of what happened that morning.

The Vision

It was in the early hours of that Thursday morning on the fourth of September 1997 when Jesus appeared to me in a vision. I am not sure whether it happened in the body or out of body, but I can tell you that this was not a dream; it was definitely a vision.

In the vision I saw myself walking down the road toward the house my dad had built and where I once lived as a teenager. As I got closer to the house and walked up the path leading up to the house I felt this incredible presence of God all around. The saints of God were gathered together in the living room, and I could hear them praising and worshipping God with such great intensity and power. The atmosphere was filled with the awesome presence of God, and something powerful, something supernatural, was taking place. Even the sky glowed like fire, dark orange and red, and the atmosphere was charged with the presence and the glory of God Almighty.

As I got closer to the house, some of the believers ran up to me and said, Mark, where have you been? Jesus visited us, and he was looking for you. I felt a great excitement within me, but I was also a little disappointed that I had not been there to meet him. I pleaded with them to show me where he stood, and they led me to the garden at the back of the house. They then showed me a spot on the ground where he had stood, and immediately I went to that spot, bowed down on my knees, and put my forehead on the ground. For that moment I was alone, just waiting for him in silence.

Then suddenly, Jesus was standing next to me. Without opening my eyes or lifting up my head I felt his glorious presence all around me. My body began to tremble and shake, and the tears rolled down my face. I couldn’t control myself as a great fear came over me, a fear that I had never experienced in my life before. The Son of God, the Christ, My Creator, was standing right next to me. I tried to speak, but his glory and power were too great for me to say anything. I couldn’t open my mouth. Even with my eyes closed and my head to the ground I could sense and feel his glory and radiance all around me. It was like a consuming fire, powerful but yet so beautiful. Eventually I opened my mouth and with great fear I said, Jesus, I cannot look at You. Your presence and glory is too great for me to look upon You.

As I said this my natural body felt like it had reached the point of death, and I thought that I was going to die. Little did I realize that I was about to get a glimpse of eternity. This is what happens when the natural meets the supernatural. Then Jesus replied and said, Mark, put your hands over your eyes and slowly lift up your head, and then you will see Me.

All the senses in my body became incredibly acute. He called me by name. I actually heard him say my name, I said. He knows me. And at that moment I could feel his warmth and love surround me. I heard that voice before. I know him. I kept saying these things as I lay there on the ground.

As he spoke these words, it seemed as if his strength came over me and lifted me up. I put my hands over my face, blocked by eyes, and slowly raised myself off the ground. As I stood up in front of him, still trembling and shaking uncontrollably, I slowly moved my fingers apart and then gently opened my eyes. I then got a glimpse of his glory and radiance all around. There are no words to describe the purity, power, holiness, and beauty in his glorious presence. As I opened my eyes it felt as if I were being sanctified and cleansed by his awesome presence; his consuming fire was burning right through me, transforming and changing me.

When my eyes were fully opened I saw him standing in front of me, elevated above the ground with his arms outstretched. What a beautiful, glorious sight that was. It is something that will remain with me forever. My Jesus, my Savior, Son of the living God, standing before me in all his glory, majesty, and power. As I looked up at him his face radiated like a light never seen before, and his body was clothed with glory and power. A burning fire was in his eyes as love and warmth radiated out of his very being. He was so powerful and yet so gentle.

What happened next is just inexplicable. It is something that will remain with me for the rest of my life. I can only describe it as being supernatural, a shadow and a picture of what is yet to come. I tell you, saints of God, that if this is what our heavenly Father has prepared for us, then I wait for that day with great excitement. To this very day I am not sure if my spirit had left my body or my natural body had transformed into something supernatural, but something definitely happened to me that day, and I felt it. The person that stood trembling and shaking before Jesus was suddenly transformed into a totally different person. I became perfect in every way, and my entire being had just been transformed and renewed. This is who I was in the spirit, a supernatural, spiritual being, perfect and holy in the presence of the living God. I still knew who I was, but I was changed into something glorious.

And then the most amazing thing happened. In a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, Jesus drew me into himself, and I was inside him. I was actually inside Jesus. How could this be? How is this possible? How can one person enter into another? All of these thoughts flooded my mind. As I was translated into him, I was complete and whole, as if I belonged in him. A pure love and an indescribable peace came over me, and my senses became extremely acute, expressing the unspeakable joy that was in me. I was clothed in him and was in paradise, a place of complete rest and serenity. I felt perfect and holy, and my true personality and character came through. It felt as if the old Mark had died and the new Mark had become alive in Christ. The new man was so different from the old man; they were worlds apart.

Then Jesus began to move, and as he moved I moved with him, because I was in him. It was no longer about my thoughts or my actions but all about him. He had total control over everything, and I just rested in him as he moved. I was absolutely comfortable in him as I became one with him. I was a part of whatever he did, and it was perfect. Everything happened effortlessly. The most amazing thing about this experience was that I was perfectly placed in him, the place where I belonged, and I had this deep sense within me that I had been there before, a place in Christ even before the foundations of the world.

As I remained in him I realized that he was not a stranger; I knew him and he knew me. It appeared that the memory of him, which was once lost, had all suddenly come back to me. The fellowship and intimacy was so special, something that I had never, ever experienced with anyone else in my life before. We talked and laughed and rejoiced as if we knew each other from eternity, like two brothers reuniting after a long time of separation, just rejoicing and enjoying each other to the fullest. This was the most amazing and beautiful thing that I had ever experienced, and it remains so vivid in my heart and mind today. Oh, how I pray that I could have stayed there in him and not returned, to be one with my Jesus for all eternity.

And then he began to speak to me as we walked in the garden. He spoke slowly and gently and for a long time. I just listened and agreed as if I knew exactly what he was saying. He had imparted something important into me with specific instructions as to what I should do. We then entered the house and moved to the living room, where the saints were praying. As we went closer to them the intensity of their prayers and worship increased to a point of hysteria. This is what the Upper Room must have sounded like when the Holy Spirit fell upon the early church.

Then Jesus said to me, Mark, these saints cannot see or hear me. They can only feel my presence. But I have come to show myself to you.

And as he said these words a thought entered my mind, and I said to myself, This cannot be happening to me.

And immediately Jesus said, If you speak in unbelief, I will have to go back to the place where I’ve come from.

We then proceeded out of the house and back into the garden. As we exited the house, Jesus said to me, Just go!

And I replied, Lord, where shall I go? What shall I do? I don’t have the means to go.

Again Jesus said, Just go!

And again I said, Lord, how must I go? I don’t have the money or the resources to go. And at that moment I thought about the financial commitments that I had and how difficult it would be for me to go.

And for the third and final time he said to me, Just go!

And as he spoke these words I suddenly saw myself walking through airports and traveling to different parts of the world preaching the message that was imparted in me. I also saw myself standing in front of a large crowd leading the saints of God in worship.

After I saw these things in the spirit, I felt myself being separated from him, and he slowly moved away in the distance until I couldn’t see him any longer. I was then lying on my back looking up into the night sky, as if I had been resuscitated. It appeared as if my spirit had returned to my body, and I was back in my natural body.

It was about four o’clock in the morning when my wife, Jane, and I got out of bed. She was about five months pregnant with our son Jezale, and before I could tell her what had happened she began to
