A Nation Born in a Day - Paul Toberty

    book.

    INTRODUCTION

MIDDLE EAST STRIFE, increasing global anti-Semitism and dwindling support for Israel among the world’s superpowers—these are the headlines of the day. Many solutions are proposed but none seem to work.

There is a solution to the on-going problems in the Middle East but it is hardly ever dreamed of, let alone addressed. It is not even whispered among those in power, though the Bible makes it very clear what the answer is.

That answer has to do with a promise made thousands of years ago to a man who became the father of faith: Abraham.

The promise of land to this man and his descendants, though obscure and seemingly lost in the sands of time, is as valid as today’s currency. One day it will be fulfilled in its entirety—I believe very soon.

This book offers keys to understanding God’s promises of land to Israel. We must start by being aware that God promised land to Israel, and then we must fervently pray for that promise to be answered.

That is why this book also includes a daily devotional which will help you pray for the peace of Jerusalem and partner with Israel in petitioning the Almighty for the land that rightfully belongs to Israel.

    That is our clarion call!

World affairs and our own personal destinies are wrapped up in this Abrahamic land grant. And so we must pray. This book will help take you along that path. You will first read about the promises that God has granted to Israel. Then you will consider important questions about Israel’s destiny and your own. As you read along and pray through this guide you will understand in a deeper way what God has promised Israel—and what He has promised to you personally.

Scripture tells us that we will be blessed if we bless Israel:

I will make you a great nation; I will bless you

And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.

I will bless those who bless you,

And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.

    —GENESIS 12:2–3 (NKJV)

Let’s examine this mysterious and prophetic promise of God to Abraham which will one day redraw the map of the Middle East. Let’s stand with Israel and the Israeli people, lifting them up to our heavenly Father. Let’s pray that His land grant promise will be fulfilled even in our lifetime! Let’s also be inspired by what God has promised to His chosen people and apply those promises to our personal lives as well.

May God speak to you through this book about His everlasting promise to Abraham—and may God inspire you to embrace what it means for your life, too.

    CHAPTER 1

    GOD AND REAL ESTATE

I’M A BUSINESSMAN and a land developer. I have made a living buying and selling land and been on both sides of deals involving tens of millions of dollars. When it comes to land, I know from experience that a contract means everything. A contract gives you possession of a certain parcel of land, the freedom to build on it, to sell it, to develop it. You don’t do anything without a contract. Without it, you have no right to the property. This is basic to our system of law and government here in America.

Contracts are also basic to God’s Kingdom economy. God owns a lot of land—you may have noticed. He’s the original real estate mogul. He created it. It belongs to Him. People divide land, buy it, sell and develop it, but our activity comes and goes. Our earthly lives are temporary as is our ownership of the parcels, properties, and places that make up this planet. Ultimately, it is all His and He can give it to whomever He pleases. The Bible says:

The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.

    —PSALM 24:1

This is such an important principle that Paul repeated it in 1 Corinthians 10:26.

What does God do with all this land? Sometimes He gives it to people. When He does, He stands by His word because His word is His contract.

God is not a man, that He should lie,

Nor a son of man, that He should repent.

Has He said, and will He not do?

Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?

    —NUMBERS 23:19 (NKJV)

So when I read Genesis 15, as a real estate owner and landlord of major properties, I see more than a passing promise—I see a contract. This particular contract is between God and Abraham. It has been called God’s land grant to Abraham. Let’s look at it:

On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram and said, To your descendants I give this land, from the Wadi of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates—the land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites, Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites, Amorites, Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites.

    —GENESIS 15:18–21

This may seem like alphabet soup to us now, because the
