It’s show time for Gemma - the day of her work’s exciting launch event in London has arrived, and she resolves to focus on that and put aside her relationship issues. It should have been one of the most exciting nights of my career. A product launch is always fun, but when the product is a new vodka, and the launch is a party in a prestigious London venue with all sorts of press and media coverage… well, we’re talking both glamour and employment success and I had been so much looking forward to it.

Now, though, I was so wrapped up in my own thoughts and planning that I barely considered the night ahead as I strode from the tube station with a garment bag slung over my shoulder.

I had a stalker! How nice. Not just any stalker, either, oh no. This stalker was some kind of Greek god in disguise; someone who, even now, in my state of fury, I couldn’t think of without swooning a bit. It was hard to be scared of a man whom I so desperately wanted to see again. I wasn’t sure if it was desire or just burning curiosity to solve the mystery of who he was and what he wanted, but I was looking out for him around every corner.

And why was I furious? Because everything he had done had been absolutely outrageous, and the height of presumption. In less than two days he had felt me up on the tube and managed to give me a spectacular orgasm; shaken me up enough that I’d actually gone out and had sex with a good friend despite my hitherto spotless record on fidelity to my husband Dan; dominated my every waking thought; and, best of all, tricked Dan into adopting his bloody dog and sending a secret message with her to let me know that he was watching me and that it wasn’t over. And I didn’t even know his name.

How had this happened? I was not a cheater. I loved my husband. And yet I couldn’t stop thinking of the stranger with eyes as blue as sapphires and fingers so sure and clever. It felt unreal, and if I hadn’t just walked his damn dog home and handed her over to Dan then I’d be inclined to think I’d dreamed it.

And it wasn’t just that this man had touched me. It was that he hadn’t been acting alone. There had been more people present on the tube that had been in on it than I had realised at the time, but when I had discovered that it was a team effort the whole experience took on a bizarre and sinister tone. It looked very much like I’d been singled out in advance by a group, and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why. For fun just didn’t seem like a good enough answer.

I had spent most of yesterday in a state of overwhelming guilt. But now I was seething. I was not going to be a victim. I was going to find him, preferably before he could strike again. His dog had two pieces of information dangling innocently from the collar: Her name, Amy, and a mobile number. The message I’d left on the voicemail had hopefully made it clear that I wasn’t someone who could be bullied
