    Cwantador - Niel Boatman

    Chapter 1: Left behind.

Get back here you rat! The storeman shouted. I am sorry! But I am just very hungry. Abby ran out on the street as fast as she could. The storeman ran as fast as he could and caught up to her. He got hold of Abby’s T-Shirt and threw her against the wall. She was covered in bruises. Abby hit her head on the wall. It caused a cut just above her cheek. In her hands, there was a small loaf of bread. Her hands were covered in dirt and her clothes had holes in it. The storeman looked at her and walked towards her. He was fuming. He put his hands together. It looked like he was going to hit her. Abby didn’t have the power to stand up and run. The man quickly took the piece of bread and held it before her face just to tease her. He put the bread in his pocket and turned around. When this happened a crowd gathered around them. They were looking at the incident but didn’t do anything. The man looked at the crowd and spoke in an unusually loud voice. These are the so-called children we need to protect. These rats destroy our society. They steal, deal and murder. We need to gather these rats and put them far away. We need to trust our president and make sure that he will fix the problem. The man turned to Abby one last time and said. If no one wants to take care of you. Who will? The storeman put a large smile on his face and walked back to his store while he was whistling. After the man left the crowd lust looked at Abby. Abby could hear them whisper. Who does she think she is? We are living in poverty and she thinks she can steal our proud work? The crowd went on with their day and Abby was left defeated. She was left thinking if she will get ever the life that the kids had
