JESSICA’S GHOSTS
Elizabeth had been the name on her birth certificate, although she had never understood why. Even from the day she was born, her parents had called her Libby.
She stood at the front of the ferry, letting the fresh sea breeze filter through her hair. It felt refreshing and even invigorating to feel the wind on her cheeks. Just keep moving forward, she thought. She felt sad for a moment, remembering what she had left behind. Elizabeth took a deep, determined breath. This is important. Onwards and upwards.
Jessica had tried to stand with her mother but the railing was out of reach. Instead she stood next to her, closing her eyes and feeling the wind just as her mother was doing. She didn’t want to disturb her mum. Libby had looked so sad and fragile in that moment, so she stood still, and imitated her instead.
‘Mrs Greenwood?’ said a man as he approached Libby. She was stood in the car park of the ferry
