Introduction
Betty Harris is a Christian wife, mother of five, and an equally active grandmother who homeschooled all of her children and has plans to homeschool her grandchildren. She holds a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Early Childcare Education, and a Master's Degree in Early Childcare with a minor in Bible Literacy. She believes that it doesn’t matter the level of development nor where the learning takes place especially when it is done within the home; if given the time, opportunity, and love, all children can learn.
CONFRONTED WITH MY struggles, I verged upon neither going after my dreams, as well as moving towards compromising my faith at one point for the sake of other people's opinions. Therefore; this book is written with the intent to help parents and guardians like myself to realize that they have what it takes to homeschool their children. In addition, to help them to understand that their choice to do so is the best choice they can ever make for their child’s educational journey. Ultimately, it pains my heart to come in contact with those parents who want to homeschool their children, who instead, genuinely feel bound by the opinion of others and are on the verge of giving up on the thought. Unfortunately, in such cases, we have a tendency to get caught up in ourselves and give up on any plans to homeschool. Consequently, we do not realize that when we allow ourselves or others to change our directions, that what we are doing is giving up on that which is in the best interest of our children. Regretfully, somewhere along the way we get so wrapped up in these things: trying to make it big, trying to make a name for ourselves, trying to get man’s approval, becoming self-seeking, finding no time for prayer, or seeking what’s best for our children. Hence, because of choosing not to go through with our plans, and accept the role of teaching our children, based off of someone else’s speculation concerning homeschooling, we end up on the hurting end. Actually, those people who have their strong opinions do not have the least clue of how torn up some parents are guardians are on the inside because they have become masters at faking the funk, and are pros at putting on counterfeit smiles while pretending to the world that everything in their lives is okay. I’ve been there and done that, and it has caused a great deal of pain to rest within my heart. Finally, for this reason, my advice for those parents or guardians who are ready to give up on the choice to homeschool their child/ren, is don’t give up on yourself or on God, instead, give up on trying to figure out how to do it on your own.
Likewise; remember, God said that He would never leave nor forsake you, besides, history has proven that He is a keeper of His promises. In addition, let the advice found in these pages encourage you to be the parent or guardian that chooses to give up the following elements: seeking to find answers from people whose situations are no better than yours, accepting advice from those people who are not sincere nor takes their own advice, give up searching for those other than God to fulfill your need to make your own choices, finally give up on viewing your struggles as failures. You are stronger than you think you are and for this cause, there is a reason why you are still here, not to mention; consider this, against all odds you are still in your right state of mind. Hence, with that being the case; keep fighting, keep believing, stay in the race and know that your labor is not in vain. In fact, more than anyone else, you know deep inside that you ARE called to homeschool your children, also; I believe that if you had thought, or sensed otherwise, you would not have read this far nor will you read any further.
Consequently, if for one second you don’t trust anything else, I would advise you to trust that there is a crown waiting for you if you endure to the end, and come what may my friend believe that you can do it! Such as one of my greatest goals in this life as a mother is to give my children the best upbringing I can, and to strive for that rearing to be pleasing to the Lord. When I first began homeschooling my children I had my share of critics who whispered discouraging things in my ears in attempts to convince me that I was not making a wise choice, and with no avail, those persons tried from top to bottom
