About this ebook

Serenity has the life most girls would dream of. She lives in a lavish house next to her rich neighbors in a predominately white neighborhood. She is at the top of her Christian Academy class and rocks nothing but the latest fashions and designer labels. Her father, Blair, is an abuser but wants her to be successful. Serenity is a free spirit who finds love on the opposite side of the tracks, against her father’s wishes.

Supreme grew up in the foster care system where he aged out on his eighteenth birthday. He left his last home with nothing but a black trash bag of his belongings and a thirst to make money. With the help of a savage street ruffian, Blaze, money came to him easily and women flocked to him steadily.

Serenity and Supreme cross paths at a party and it is love at first sight. She is willing to risk it all just to be with him. But her father will do anything to keep them apart. Blair and Blaze have more in common than just the letter B in their first names. Blair and Blaze’s past may cost Serenity and Supreme their future.

Supreme & Serenity - Shavekia Layfield

Prologue

The rain was pouring causing the leak in the ceiling to be worse than normal. Gabby looked at her sleeping son and cried. This was not how she wanted to spend her Thanksgiving. The refrigerator was bare and there wasn’t a single turkey or ham in the stove. Her pride kept her from the shelters and accepting handouts. She was intent on waiting for Blair to return home. He had promised that after he had dinner with his family he would come through.

Gabby checked her phone and it was dry, not a single text from Blair or from anyone else for that matter. She placed a bucket underneath the hole in the ceiling to catch the water. Then she gathered her son, wrapped him in a blanket and got into her car.

If your daddy won’t come to us, then we will go to him, she said as she strapped the young baby into his car seat.

She drove from her one-bedroom, shotgun house on the south side of town to Blair’s mansion on the outskirts of the city. Even though the rain was beating down on her car as she travelled, Gabby didn’t stop her trip. Supreme was in the back seat crying.

It will not be long now son, because we are going to see your daddy.

The drive took nearly an hour, partially the distance but more so due to the treacherous rain storm. When she pulled up to the house the lights were on. Gabby sat at the curb outside of Blair’s home and watched as he laughed and interacted his wife and other kids. Gabby called his phone and watched him send her to voicemail. A tear dropped from her eye because her heart was broken.

Gabby had every intention of going into the house and interrupting his family time. The smile on Blair’s white wife’s face as he kissed her cheek to thank her for handing him a premade plate shattered all Gabby’s dreams of having any relationship with him. Not to mention her very pregnant belly that he also kissed, or the other children that were running around and playing. Blair had sold her a dream and she had invested into it. It was Gabby’s generous investment in Blair’s dream of owning a transportation company. The money was supposed to be for her to attend college, but she believed in him more than she believed in herself.

Gabby reached over to her glovebox and pulled out her whisky stash. She took it to the head and finished the bottle. Just as she opened the door to get out the car, she saw him standing in the window. The look on his face pierced through her soul.

Who is that honey? Maybe she is lost and needs help. Go help her, honey, Blair’s wife, Theresa, suggested.

She has not lost her way… maybe she has lost her mind, but not her way. Come on back inside baby and never mind that stray.

Blair looked back one last time as to enforce that he wanted her gone. Gabby took heed and left. Thunder clapped and lightning struck, lighting up the skies. Tears clouded Gabby’s eyes and she parked her car at the mall. The doors were open because of the night time sales, so the parking lot was already packed. She moved her car to the parking garage and sat there for a while pondering what she was going to do next. She opened the door of her car and took her sleeping son out.

She walked into the mall and there were people everywhere. Here ma’am, would you like hot chocolate? a mall greeter asked.

Yes, thank you.

Gabby placed Supreme in a mall provided stroller and sipped her hot chocolate. She pushed her way through the stores. When she got to the baby aisle of Macy’s, her heart began to ache. Supreme, Momma is leaving now. I hope someone finds you and gives you the home that you deserve. I picked the wrong daddy for you and now you are going to be left without any real parents. All of your information is in your bag, so whoever finds you will find that you were loved by me. This is better for the both of us.

Gabby kissed the top of Supremes’ head and walked away. She made it back to the parking garage without anyone stopping her. That was a sign that she had done something right. The rain seemed to be slacking in spots. Gabby drove at full speed on the slippery roads, weaving in and out of traffic.

Scrreeeech! Boom! Gabby crashed her car into a tree, killing herself instantly.

News about the baby boy left in the mall and the one-car, deadly crash was breaking news on all the news media outlets.

Blair watched alongside his wife. Such a shame, we should go get that baby. He is innocent. Why would his mother leave him and then kill herself? she asked.

People do strange things, but I am sure that boy has a father somewhere and will be just fine. There is no need for us to get involved. Besides, we already have a baby on the way. What would we do with another one?

Love him of course. Everyone needs love. When that child grows up, he will need love.

"He is strong and will be alright. We can’t save everyone and everything. Hell, we already have three rescued dogs, that ugly-ass cat, two kids, and one on the way. Leave that boy where he is. I am sure he will be sent to a good home.

Foster care is hell. I have volunteered there for years and those kids do not have a good life.

The subject is closed. I do not want the kid. He is better off where he is without his crazy ass mother. Blair turned over and so did his wife. They never went to bed upset with one another but tonight, all that changed within a blink of an eye.

Supreme

Eighteen Years Later:

Supreme, I hate to let you go. You have been my favorite since the day that you were dropped off. I always thought you would be adopted and taken away from me. For some reason, God saw fit for you to stay until you aged out. You are special and never let anyone tell you any different.

Thank you Ms. Gloria, this is the only place where I felt like I was at home.

I gathered my black trash bag one last time. I gave Ms. Gloria a hug and wiped the tears from her face. I am going to go and make you proud of me. I will be back.

You go out and do great things and if you never come back, I wouldn’t be upset. I will always be proud of you. Take this money and turn it into something amazing.

She handed me my money from the government. It was one-thousand dollars, just enough to not be enough for not much of anything. I took the money and my bag and headed on my way. Foster care was just a place to hold you until you were adopted or aged out like I had done. You were only taught skills from school and work.

I copped a job about a year ago at the mall selling sneakers. That was where I met Blaze. I didn’t know then, but he would change my life forever. He came into Foot Locker looking for the newest retro release. I was there to save the day when he gave me an offer that a kid like me couldn’t refuse.

You can be making more money working for me than you are selling sneakers to these funky feet smelling muthafuckas.

Who me? I asked.

Nawl, the white chump behind you!

I looked behind me and saw my manager Chip looking at our interaction.

Fuck that dude, he don’t even like black people.

Even more of a reason you are going to let me walk out of this bitch without paying for these shoes. Hit me up about some real work.

He didn’t tell me his name or anything. He tossed me a cell phone with one number programed in it, Blaze.

He went on about his business looking at shoes. When Chip went to the back to look for a pair of shoes for one customer and I was cashing out another customer, Blaze slipped out the door without paying for the shoes.

Did you know that guy? Chip asked.

Nah, just another customer.

I think he stole his shoes. I have to report it.

Do what you do. Don’t let me stop you, I told him.

That was the last day I worked there. I called out sick the next day and met up with Blaze at Blazing Prices Used Auto Sales.

I didn’t know at the time, but they were moving more than cars at this dealership. I learned the ropes fast. Blaze was not the man you wanted to cross. He had a slit under his left eye and the word Blaze tattooed on his neck. In addition to the car dealership, Blaze had girls, and I meant lots of girl. He was pimping them out and making money.

I knew you would come, Blaze said to me the first time that I came to see him.

I was barely paying him any attention because my eyes were on the girls. He had about seven half-naked girls standing around the dealership. I didn’t know what they fuck I had just walked in on, but I was loving the eye-candy. Blaze must have seen me staring and asked, You like what you see?

I nodded.

Have you been with a girl before?

Nah, not yet.

You aren’t gay, are you? Blaze asked with his eyebrow raised.

Nah, nah, nothing like that, just haven’t, you know...

Tessa, come over here and take my little friend to the back. Suck his dick and give him a little pussy. Not too much, cuz I don’t want him to be whipped.

I was frozen in time. Tessa pulled down my pants and placed me in her mouth. Her mouth was warm and wet. I closed my eyes and let her do her work. When she was done, my dick was hard and sloppy wet. She pulled out a condom and slid it on with her mouth. She bent over in front of me and slid my dick in place.

You gotta pump in and out. Let your body flow naturally, she instructed.

I didn’t know what the fuck I was doing, but it felt good. I held on to her waist and jerked back and forth. Before I knew it, I had condom full of nut. She moved off my dick, turned around, and removed the condom from my dick.

With a little practice, that big dick is going to be dangerous, she said as she winked and walked away.

My dick was still out when Blaze came around the corner. Did she do a good job?

The best, I answered.

In time, it will get better. Go in the bathroom and wash yourself up; we have work to do.

Blaze’s crew was composed of six main people. Turk, a big, fat, sloppy looking dude, was the driver for Blaze’s girls. Turk was slow to move on his feet, but quick with his pistol. Nomi, his accountant, a tall, slender-built guy with seasick waves surrounding his head. He was always wearing a nice, clean suit when I saw him. Roxy and Marie, were his two top bitches; they kept the other girls in line. Then me, I started as his errand boy and moved up to the position of his right-hand man. Nothing got to Blaze without passing through me first.

At first, I was reckless and was making foolish moves. I would shoot uncontrollably without thinking. I was drinking, smoking weed and fucking anything with a skirt on. I didn’t have any real family and wasn’t trying to get cozy with my foster siblings, so I spent as much time with the crew as I could. Blaze taught me how to shoot a gun, cook and weigh coke, dress for success, and how to run an illegal business while staying underneath the law’s radar. I became a man after I met Blaze. He didn’t allow my pity parties about being abandoned by my mom and pops to be an excuse for failure.

After I left Ms. Gloria’s house, I walked to my apartment. Blaze had set me up with a fye ass spot with all the fixings for a young and single bachelor, such as myself. It was his idea for me to finish school and age out of the foster care system the right way.

You want less attention on you as possible. On the outside, you are to play by the law. Only take the law in your own hands when it is necessary, Blaze said to me.

I looked at the thousand dollars in my hands. Before I met Blaze a little over a year ago, I would have thought this was a lot of money and held on to it for my dear life. I had spent more than that on one shopping trip to fill my closet with the latest drip to keep my swag saucing. When I stepped out, I was no longer the kid with hand-me-downs; my shit was fresh.

I tossed my black bag on the floor and for a minute, I sat in pure silence as I looked around. I was the man next to the goddamn man that everyone feared and respected equally. I didn’t have to wait in line for food, baths, or used hand-me-downs. The first thing I did was take a hot shower before I dressed and hit the streets for my night out on the town. I was throwing a big ass
