About this ebook

Enjoy this steamy curvy girl, second chance romance....

Makayla Ramsey never imagined living the life she has now: loving family and friends; a successful career in fashion; and married three years to a man who kept her love under wraps. But despite her love for her husband, she's no one's secret so after some thought, she decides to cut her losses.  She's starting over and not letting anyone stand in her way from her achieving her goals. But a chance meeting with her college sweetheart at her ten-year college reunion reignites old feelings and sends her into a battle for the love of her life.

Amir Slater fell hard when Makayla walked out of his life ten years ago and never looked back. Careers eventually took them both in different directions. Now, he's face-to-face with her and desperate to keep her close, but his ex-wife isn't ready to let go, not until she gets what she wants from him – his money, his undying love, and what he can do for her.

Will their second chance at love be destroyed by past relationships and the fear of having their hearts broken once again?

I Deserve His Love - Chiquita Dennie

    Chapter 1: Makayla

Ilistened to the lawyers bicker back and forth over the divorce settlement as the clock slowly inched toward 12.  My soon-to-be ex-husband, Ronan Shaw, glared at me as I looked away, cautiously wiping away another tear before it descended down my face.

    Makayla, you’re making a mistake.

Ronan, don’t talk to my client.

She’s my wife! Ronan jumped up, slamming his hands on the conference table.

According to these court documents she’s about to sign, she won’t be for long, Jeffrey, my attorney, said as he slid over the pen and divorce decree.

Makayla! You bitch! I made you, and this is how you repay me? Ronan yelled, trying to reach over and snatch the papers out of my hands.

Ronan, you promised to not be late tonight and now you’re walking into the house at two in the morning, stumbling drunk and smelling like rancid pussy.  Are you serious right now? He staggered to the sofa falling down with his shoes still on, keys in his hand.

Makayla, calm down it’s not like you had anything important to do.

I had a very important meeting with a boutique owner about potentially including my designs in her store. You’re always doing this! Promising to show up and then you bail on me last minute. I’m tired of the constant cycle of lies and cheating, Ronan.

Well tough, you know if you weren’t so stuck up, I’d probably want to have sex with you more often.

Did you just admit to cheating on me? Hey, Ronan, wake up.

I smacked him across the face, and he jolted awake.

    What the fuck!

    You’re a fucking liar.

Makayla, leave me alone. I’m tired, and I had a long day on set, so let’s just put a pin in this conversation, your overreacting can wait for another day.

He stood up to walk out to our bedroom. I jumped up fast, blocking him from leaving the living room.

Who is she? Huh? I know about the interns and the harem of assistants, Ronan. You can stop pretending now and tell me the truth. I’d probably respect you more if you did.

You want the truth? Fine. I don’t love you anymore, you’ve changed, and all you want to talk about these days is going back to school and pursuing some stupid fashion line. It’s not realistic and you know I’m in the height of my career. I want a family and my wife at home taking care of what’s important.

Ronan, you’ve known I’ve always wanted to do this ever since college. This shouldn’t be a surprise to you, especially now that I’m finally getting a chance to get my work showcased in stores!

All at the expense of our family, he scoffed.

He walked around me heading to our bedroom stumbling as I muttered behind him. You broke our family a long time ago.

This was the only way to get my life back on track and start focusing on my goals as a fashion designer. If things were left up to him, we’d still be married, and he’d be out with some bimbo, while I was home, taking care of the house. In college, we’d dated off and on for about two years, and so many times, he’d cancel plans we had just to go to some last-minute audition, and I constantly allowed him to put me last in our relationship—until now. I wouldn’t continue perpetuating the same cycle anymore. I wouldn’t let my dreams be pushed aside for no man.

He snapped his fingers in front of my face. Are you listening to me, Kay-Kay? Don’t do this, baby; we’re good together. I promise I’ll do better, Ronan told me, trailing a finger down my cheek.

I moved out of his hold, picked up the pen, gazing into his eyes and signed my name on the dotted line. It might have taken me awhile, but I was reclaiming myself and no one and nothing was going to stand in my way, including him. It’s Makayla Ramsey, and I hope you find what you’re looking for in the future, but it’s not me, Ronan. In the whole time we’ve been together, I can only recall a few moments of happiness, and I can’t go backwards.

It’s because of him that you’re doing this. I’m not the only one who stepped out on our marriage. Did you tell your lawyer about that thing you had going on with Amir?

I shook my head in annoyance, his voice droning in my ear like a mosquito. I haven’t seen Amir in over six years, and I’ve never stepped out on you. I was faithful since the moment I met you. Do us both a favor and move on, Ronan. I picked up my purse and shook hands with my lawyer.

Over my shoulder, Ronan screamed my name repeatedly.

He thought I was falling for his act, but this was more about doing damage control on his image and wanting to avoid being seen as a divorced actor in Hollywood. Nothing was authentic about his intentions. Even our wedding was all about what he wanted with a trip to Vegas without our family to witness. My best friends thought I was crazy for staying with him for so long, but I stuck to my wedding vows for better or worse. After a while though, it became more than I could bear, and I needed to step out of his shadow and figure out what made me happy.

    Six months later.

Makayla, what are your plans for getting us some actual office space, because working out of your house is not good for my single status, Boss Lady, Dontae, one of my best friends and assistants at Makayla Ramsey Designs, said with a grin.

Things had taken off at lightning speed once the divorce was finalized. I got the three-bedroom house and a small settlement, and Ronan got the cars and the vacation house in Jamaica. I only wanted the house, but my parents talked me into taking a settlement to make up for the time I’d spent not working and catering to Ronan’s every whim, so I did come away with a nice little nest egg to start my company with.

I knew some people were surprised that a size-18 woman could be so successful in the fashion industry. But all my life, I loved fashion, and I loved my body. It was only when I got with Ronan that I started to feel self-conscious about my looks. I had a slender nose, a small gap between my teeth, and pouty full lips. I took after my mother with my long, sleek hair. One time, when I was 18, I cut my hair in a moment of trying to be different and rebellious. I had been the good girl for so long: getting straight As, working at the family catering business on the weekends, never drinking or doing drugs. I wanted to control something. But cutting my hair ended up being a disaster. My mother came home and almost passed out. To this day,
