    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

HAVE YOU WONDERED sometimes who the person in your life is who plays the most important part of your development? Or have you given any thought about the person who occupies the greatest part of your time? I just spent a little time thinking about this. Immediately I thought about my husband and my children and grandchildren.

Although it is true that in most cases our loved ones occupy the greatest part of our time, we must also seriously consider who the person is who plays the most important part of our spiritual growth process.

I sincerely want to acknowledge the Person of the Holy Spirit as the most important person in my life. He is the one who impresses and coaches me every step of the way. Thank You, Holy Spirit, for inspiring and enabling me to share truth and wisdom with my readers.

I also want to acknowledge my daughter Kristine, who experienced great turmoil in her life but who has blossomed into a lovely and vivacious young lady. God’s promises for my children have never failed.

I want to sincerely thank my daughter Kathy, who saw to it that I was not disturbed or burdened with too many personal details as I wrote this book.

I’ve learned how to access God’s promises and also to set up an account for my children and generations to come. Without the Holy Spirit involved completely in my life, you wouldn’t be reading this book.

    INHERIT THE PROMISES

    There’s a promise for God’s children,

Sealed with power from the throne.

    An inheritance everlasting

That no eye has seen or known.

    Oh, what glorious expectation

    To behold the Master’s splendor,

    Face-to-face in all His glory

    Praising His majestic grandeur.

In the meantime as I wait,

    All God’s promises I will enjoy;

Making sure my family and friends

    Will continue to rejoice.

    INTRODUCTION

TWO WEEKS AGO I was teaching a seminar about possessing God’s promises, and I used as my text the Bible story in Numbers 27 about a wealthy father who died unable to leave his five daughters an inheritance. In those times only the male sons received an inheritance; women were excluded from receiving an inheritance. Zelophehad had no sons, and his five daughters were determined to claim their father’s inheritance. These young women were persistent, specific, focused, and undeterred. They knew the law dictated that an inheritance only went to the sons. But these young women were not inhibited or convinced by the earthly laws. They were tenacious and willing to face criticism, disgrace, and opposition. They fought for their father’s inheritance, declaring that it rightfully belonged to them. Their actions declared, Satan, you can’t have what is mine! You can’t have my promises!

    How about you?

What has the enemy stolen from you? What is rightfully yours?

Could it be your identity, your health, your marriage, your children, your employment, your peace of mind, your honor? Do you think the best years of your life are all gone?

Do you feel barren—as if God has forgotten all about you?

If you’re a believer, God has set His royal seal on you. Every promise in the Word belongs to you! But we must be constantly aware that we are God’s possession. We must develop a deep knowing of who we are in Christ. Our status in Christ gives us the legal right to enter into God’s presence with boldness, as a child barges into his parents’ room when he is scared or wants something. Not only does it give us access into God’s presence, but it also gives us access into all of God’s blessings and promises. Like playing a piano or taking swimming lessons, learning how to live under God’s blessings and how to enjoy our time here on earth also takes knowledge and practice.

I believe that the insights and wisdom presented in this book will give you powerful tools that will not only equip you to understand how to enjoy your blessings and leave a rich legacy here on earth but also prepare you for the eternal inheritance of God’s promises awaiting all of God’s children.

As I ended the seminar, the altar was filled to capacity with men and women of many cultures, making a stand and declaring to the enemy, Satan, you can’t have my promises! My prayer is that you too will make a quality decision to allow the Holy Spirit of promise to restore and reveal to you how you can abundantly enjoy God’s blessings from the legacy already bequeathed to you.

Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

    —EPHESIANS 1:13–14, NIV

    CHAPTER ONE

    ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIC

    PROMISES

By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

—2 PETER 1:3–4, NLT, EMPHASIS ADDED

THIS TEACHING IS dynamic and transforming. Don’t allow the enemy to fool you into thinking that it is just another discussion on the things God has reserved for His followers after we die and go to heaven.

Just doing the research for this book has elevated me to another level in my walk with the Lord. Who we are in Christ, and God’s terrific covenant promises available to us, must become a daily conscious awareness and reality so embedded in our minds that no matter what happens to us or around us, we will be able to trust God for our next breath, our next morsel, our next victory.

I do realize that if I took the name of Satan and all the scriptures out of this book and made it more generic and all-encompassing, selectively describing all the nice promises of God in a relevant way without touching the heart issues and the conditions necessary to receive, I would probably get a much broader audience to read this book. The truth is that time is running short, and too many people are wondering why God has forsaken them and why is it they are not enjoying all these wonderful promises the Bible talks about. We must deal with the truth. Enjoying God’s promises involves a supernatural belief system and a confident faith in an invisible God who is holy and actively involved in our lives—just as Satan is also actively involved in deceiving and frustrating the lives of so many people today. I pray that you will get a deeper understanding of the real battle a believer is involved in every day and how much we should be enjoying right now!

A dramatic event took place in my life at the tender and inquisitive age of thirteen that forever impacted my mind about the concept of a covenant promise. My father came home from work early one dark and
