Chapter 1

Prepare To Meet Your God

Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel: and because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet your God, O Israel.

Amos 4:12

This is a prophecy God gave to the prophet Amos concerning his people Israel and this prophecy carried a very specific instruction prepare to meet your God.

The aim of this book is to help every reader clearly understand the purpose of this instruction, what it means to prepare to meet God, what are the things needed in our preparation to meet God and how every individual can get himself ready to meet God.

What Does It Mean To Prepare?

1. To set up yourself correctly.

2. To establish yourself in certain things in anticipation.

3. To render sure services necessary to help you achieve.

4. To make necessary provision.

5. To be ready.

6. To aright yourself.

7. To make yourself ready to encounter.

In the following examples, we are going to see how certain individuals in biblical history were prepared or not prepared to meet God. We would see how some people had to set themselves up correctly and how others could not get themselves ready, not forgetting those who did not even bother or believe in preparing to meet God.

Our aim here is to glean wisdom from their way of life to correct our lives if we have to, make a U-turn concerning certain decisions, goals and aspirations we have and to set ourselves up properly to meet God.

15 Examples of How Certain Individuals Prepared Themselves To Meet God

1. The Foolish Rich Man- Eating, Drinking and Building More Houses

And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. And he spake a parable unto them, saying, the ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully and he thought within himself, saying, what shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? And he said, this will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.

And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

Luke 12:15-21

This is a clear example of our modern day era, many are working tirelessly in every effort to build for themselves and their families barns and greater barns and to store up much treasure for the future not taking into account the need to acknowledge God nor the opportunity to prepare to meet God.

What was the outcome of the life of this rich man who doubtless was a very diligent and resourceful man but without God in his life?

Those who do not prepare to meet God will only end up in hell, being rejected and condemned just like this rich man. Be wise!

2. The Rich Ruler Who Lacked Only One Thing In His Preparation.

And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? None is good, save one, that is, God. Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.

And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up. Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.

And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, how hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle’s eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

Luke 18:18-25

As in this example, in our preparation to meet God, there might be only one thing that will disqualify us or keep us from being justified before God. This very rich ruler qualified
