DAY 1
GOD’S FAVOUR AND SALVATION
2 Corinthians 6:2
He says,
"In the time of my favour I have heard you,
and in the day of salvation, I helped you."
I tell you, now is the time of God’s favour, now is the day of salvation. [NIV]
For He says:
"In an acceptable time, I have heard you,
And in the day of salvation, I have helped you.
Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation." [NKJV]
It is very instructive to know that there is a time in God’s economy when He listens to sinners and responds to those who are repentant – precisely, this is the day of salvation. That day of salvation is congruous to God’s divine favour. Thus, salvation is the greatest expression of God’s favour, and it is a time God sovereignly chooses; it is not our own choosing. It is exactly the time God saves mankind from the clutches of sin through His Son Jesus Christ. God, by sending His Son Jesus Christ to the earth, bestowed His divine favour upon mankind. The day you received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour is the day God’s favour begins to rest upon your life. That day of salvation is glorious, rich, and loaded with every spiritual blessing. That day of salvation, a memorial day never to be forgotten, is cheering news. Why is it so? Well, mankind, heavily burdened with guilt and plagued with all sorts of sin, were redeemed. Salvation, then, is the time of God’s favour and it is not a matter to trivialize. It is a great thing needed, and He gave to us through His Son Jesus Christ. To miss salvation is to miss everything, thus putting life in eternal jeopardy! This salvation is free, for Christ is free. Beloved, Hebrews 2:3 says, How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation…
God gratuitously offered salvation to all people. As explicitly stated in Titus 2:11, For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.
How can we spurn God’s favour? Many people are putting off making this important decision to receive God’s salvation, thinking that there will be a better time, but they could easily miss it. The urgency of salvation for the soul is rendered in our biblical text with double emphasis Now.
"Now" is the time of God’s favour; now is the day of salvation. The period in which to act is now,
not yesterday that is past; not tomorrow which is the future yet to come. There might be ample reasons to glance over the shoulder at future possibilities; however, the Lord of the ‘now’ calls you to celebrate life now without regrets. What regrets hold you hostage? What kind of energy do you need to expend obeying God now? The tendency to procrastinate is often strong – there is enough time, oh tomorrow, one hypothesizes, but never materializes. This reflects the human view of life, but the divine is otherwise: "Now is the time of God’s favour; behold, now is the day of salvation." Man, with hardened heart, consequently play with the perils of delay to his own destruction, for life may be cut short speedily and suddenly. This is the sinfulness of delay – what an injustice to our lives, and what an insult to God’s graciousness! God has had varied sorts of days: He had a day to create, a day to preserve, a day to afflict, and a day to judge, but the day of salvation is ‘now.’ There is no time like the present now to receive God’s favour. Divine message of salvation is pressed home today. You cannot wonder at the urgency of God, for God knows what a loss of salvation involves – it is the day of God’s favour, and the day of salvation is now! Thus, make much of this day; it is a glorious day. Never let it be lost forever! God’s favour is today – it is a glorious day of salvation. Let us give Him the praise and adoration for this day henceforth! Beloved, relish in God’s divine favour now. Open the heart to receive the greatest gift ever – the gift of salvation now! Amen.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank You for this day of salvation. I will work daily toward it with fear and trembling; O my God, help me! Father, thank You for this day of divine favour and visitation which gladly I receive into my heart. Lord, I pray that it may totally change my entire outlook in life from this day forward. Father, today I declare the reality of my salvation and Your divine favour upon me. Father, take all the glory. Reign and rule in my life. Heavenly Father, I give You all the praise, honour, and adoration through Your Son Jesus Christ. In my Lord’s name I pray. Amen.
DAY 2
GOD’S FAVOUR –
NEW BEGINNING IN LIFE
Genesis 6:8
But Noah found favour in the eyes of the LORD.
[NIV]
But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.
[NKJV]
We read in Genesis chapter six that during the days of Noah, the moral deterioration of the human race was unprecedented. Wickedness, lawlessness, and violence and its vices grieved the heart of God. Consequently, God decided to destroy mankind by flood. However, in the midst of the wickedness and degradation, Noah walked with God in righteousness and found favour in the eyes of the LORD. Noah stood alone in his generation like a solitary green tree – erect in a forest of broken and fallen pines. Among the faithless, he was found faithful! Noah was righteous, discharging all the obligations of the law. He was a full man – in the sense of completely walking with the Lord – not a one-sided and therefore a distorted one. Noah’s life was unaffected by the universal contamination and evil around him. He was not a partaker of the sinful lifestyle, but rather driven to a more rigid abstinence from the debauchery of life that surrounded and besieged him. Beloved, learn that the true place of the saint is "in his generation." What a beauty there is in that description of the isolated man, passing lonely among his contemporaries like a stream of pure water flowing untouched through foul liquid. Though surrounded by friends, we have to realize that after all we live, suffer, and must die alone. Noah was an upright and straightforward man, always clear as crystal and eschewing a life of unfaithfulness. For that matter, the eyes of Almighty God favourably looked toward him in his generation. He who is walking with God will be no sham amongst his fellow creatures, nor will he be a trickster. Truth will be upon his lips, justice in his hands, honour in his acts, probity in his dealings, and purity in his affections. Unquestionably, this lifestyle will attract God’s favour. Noah, as biblical texts attest, was perfect in his generation.
There was nothing pretentious, nothing vain – all was sincere and his devotion to his God was a visible reality. The man was just what he seemed to be — honest, earnest, and truthful. The word generation
is a very emphatic word in this connection. It was no easy thing for Noah to build the ark amidst the scoffing of his generation. Smart jokes fell around him like hail. All the practical men
thought him a dreamy fool, wasting time while they prospered and made something of life. The secret of his obedience is recorded in Hebrews chapter 11:7: By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is faith.
He realized the distant unseen because he believed Him who warned him of it. The far-off flood was more real to him, and he could envisage its calamity upon mankind. Therefore, he could stand all the gibes, and gave himself to a course of life which was sheer folly unless that future was real. Noah stood out from the wickedness of his day, and God gave him a new beginning. Favour of God will give you stimulus and hope to live life impeccable before God, irrespective of the environment you find yourself in. Hope emerges when favour of God dawns upon your life. When the whole world of the ungodly is destroyed, people who find favour with God are preserved. As Noah was directed by God to build an ark for the saving of himself and his family and obeyed, he subsequently found favour with God. He therefore had the honour and great privilege of being the preserver of mankind, the father of a new world. The LORD preserved Noah. Noah therefore escaped from the sweeping destruction of the
