CHAINED TO YOUR BACKGROUND
Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils. And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept. And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.
—MARK 16:9-11
Many times people want to chain us to our background; they want to relate to us based on what they knew about us and not what we are now. Sometimes students are judged based on their past academic performance rather than their present. A teacher can have a preconception that you will fail and will not even bother reading your script but yet still give you a mark.
People can judge you based on your colour, education, or gender without even bothering to know who you are. People can rejoice that you are saved but still deny you of credibility based on what they knew about you.
When Jesus resurrected He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, but the disciples disbelieved her. She was not seen as a credible witness because of her past: Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.
Surely not Mary! Anyone but Mary! They must have thought, Maybe the demons are back.
Remember, God does not relate with you based on your past, so don’t let people chain you to your background. Break free!
CODE OF CONDUCT
The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.
—PROVERBS 15:24
Acode of conduct is a set of ideas or rules that determine how you behave. Consciously or unconsciously we all live by written and unwritten codes. For instance, when I officiate weddings I always wonder how far couples are prepared to go when they say the vows, especially when they get to the portion that says, for richer and for poorer, in sickness and in health, till death do us part.
The success of their marriage will be based on their individual code of conduct. Your code of conduct must be drawn from above, or heaven.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
—JAMES 1:17
Above
means to be governed by our Father who is in heaven. God’s Word is the code that every Christian should live by. When we live by this code we will receive good and perfect gifts. You can also live by the code of hell.
There is worldly wisdom or a wisdom from beneath,
which can figuratively make your marriage, emotions, mental state, health, etc., hell.
James 3:15 reads, This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
Use the Scriptures to live by a heavenly code and be blessed with good and perfect gifts!
ABANDONED PROJECTS
For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands.
—NEHEMIAH 6:9
Do you have a specific plan that you want to implement? Then it means you have a project on your mind. It could be a project to be married, start your own business, serve God, become a full-time minister, build a house, propose to someone you love, and the list goes on. There are many projects that die in people’s hearts and minds without ever seeing the light of day. Some get started but end up as uncompleted projects.
Nehemiah had a project on his mind to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. His enemies tried to stop the project, not with a bomb but with a more deadly weapon called fear.
He was misrepresented, lied about, maligned, made a mockery of, belittled, and became a victim of false accusation, but nothing could stop him. The idea was to weaken his hands
through the weapon of fear.
Fear has made many people to become spectators of their own lives. They keep watching what they could have become instead of becoming involved to determine the outcome of their own
