Eve - Lady Pastor Nora Osei-Bonsu

    You.

    Introduction

Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Before the mount- ains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. You turn people back to dust, saying, Return to dust, you mortals. Palms 90:1-3

The mayhem we see in our world today has a history; and in antecedents, no one might be better qualified to tell what actually happened than the Bible character Eve, the mother of all mankind and the channel through which sin is documented in the Bible to have entered and established its roots on earth.

And the Lord God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die. Genesis 2: 16-17

Many of our life’s stories are interwoven with the phrase had I known or if I had known. This phrase is usually said or heard after a serious catastrophe or major harm has occurred. Quite often, it is said or heard after unpleasant happenings have led to much regret. Truthfully, some of these major harms are oftentime dangerous, irreparable incidences which affect us, and others as well.

Eve has so much to say concerning this very phrase if I had known or had I known, being the first lady of the earth and arguably also being the first person thought to have ever used the phrase. As stated in the Bible, Adam and Eve were cursed and banished from the Garden of Eden after eating the forbidden fruit; resulting in the dreaded punishment of severe labour pains during childbirth for Eve - amongst other things. She undoubtedly must have used the phrase during or after her first experience with childbearing, not forgetting the hardship she might have encountered outside the Garden of all comfort.

Eve’s disobedience changed the destiny of mankind. If she had known that the simple act of eating the fruit prohibited by God would introduce sin, resulting in death, into the world, she may not have even listened to the serpent’s music of lies in the first place. The world is what it is today because of sin which came about as a result of the one act of disobedience by the first woman. Had she known that sickness, pain, rivalry, rape, stress, murder, homosexuality, masturbation, war, hunger, lack, greed, lesbianism, occultism, pornography, armed robbery, divorce, disloyalty, hatred etc. would be the fruit of her one decision, she may certainly have thought about it twice. These second thoughts - her possible regrets - can well serve as our deterrents, while learning from Eve’s mistakes, so we do not repeat or commit the same deadly blunder(s) in our own lives.

Though we may be well acquainted with her story, we sometimes find ourselves repeating the same phrase of regret at many junctures of our journey of life in our Christian walk. One minuscule pleasure may ruin the future of an entire family, a race, a nation for generations to come. Though our ‘will’ has been freely given to us, it is important that we embrace the fact that we are accountable for every single decision we take; whether good or bad. This is responsibility or liberty with accountability. The good Lord expects us to allow ourselves to be guided by His Word. As a result, we wouldn’t destroy our lives and that of others.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you. Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men, from men whose words are perverse. Proverbs 2:10-12

May the Lord grant us wisdom to do His will, avoiding the curse of disobedience as we delve into Eve’s world, to unravel the mystery of Satan’s one and only weapon: deception and it’s power.

In order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.

    2 Corinthians 2:11.

    CHAPTER 01

    Reflections On The Past

And the Lord God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die. Genesis 2: 16-17

It is really a very long story but I don’t mind telling it to you; a sweet, yet tortuous life. I have told it a million times over, but believe me, I don’t get tired of it. Not at all. Perhaps you might allow yourself to learn from my ‘one grave mistake’ and make a positive impact in your generation. Oh! How I wish I could re- write my life’s history… but you will agree with me that can definitely not be possible. I wish I had had a second chance, like you do have now. Count yourselves blessed because the blood of Jesus pardons and gives you justifiable platform before the Father - for which you are given the grace to start all over again on a clean sheet.

Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! Roman 5:9.

You are blessed with the amazing gift of a second chance - a chance to correct your wrongs. Many, if not all of you, speak of me with disdain. You say things like, Why did she do that? She just disobeyed the Father. You blame me for all the world’s problems. Well, you are right; I am responsible for the world’s problems, it is through my selfish decision that sin entered the world and death also as a result. All of these were the result of that same single act of disobedience. I acted ignorantly. Oh! Don’t get me wrong, I don’t intend to make excuses for my selfish deed. After all, whether I acted ignorantly or intentionally, the effect is still so disastrous. But I thank the merciful Lord for providing a way of escape for you - through His Son Jesus Christ.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Roman 6:23

Honestly, it was a relief to me when the Lord sent His Son to come into the world to redeem it from the problems my selfish deeds had brought to humankind. It was a great joy. Ohhhh, Jesus did a great work. You know, I have so much respect for Him. Why? He overcame the ‘great force’ which swept me off my feet, floored me and caused the destruction of mankind. Jesus also had a series of conversations and confrontations with the devil. But He did not allow Himself to be misled. He always had the upper hand, unlike me. I fell at the very first conversation I had with the devil. Jesus indeed made the Father proud.

On second thought, should I have a second chance to live again, I will do exactly what He did. He depended heavily on the Father, He always referred the devil to the Father’s words and even when He felt like giving up, He prayed earnestly to the Father. Goodness! What a lovely Son God has, I love Him so much but I can’t say if you do love Him too. Love Him with all your heart and allow Him to lead you and teach you how to overcome the tricks and traps of the devil. Let me tell you something that many of you do not know about the devil - All he has up his sleeve is
