Acts to the Max - Sonny Childs

    1

    Acts 1

    Jesus's ascension, Matthias selected

    Imagine

the number one as an arrow pointing up, representing the ascension. The number one also suggests that one more apostle had to be selected to replace Judas.

    Teacher's Guide

    Acts 1

    Step One: Chapter Topic Memorization

Cover the description, ask students to look at the number clue and guess the topic. Explain the meaning of the picture clue.

    Step Two: Chapter Topic Application

Real Time Scenario: If you had a little over a month before leaving the earth, what would you do for your friends? (Acts 1)

    Step Three: Key Passage Memorization

Write the passage phrase by phrase and have the students repeat each aloud. Erase key words. Have the students write the passage from memory.

    Key Passage:

    Acts 1:11

    "Men of Galilee,

why do you stand gazing up into heaven?

    This same Jesus,

who was taken up from you into heaven,

will so come in like manner

as you saw Him go into heaven."

    Step Four: Chapter Questions

    1. Who wrote the book of Acts? (Read Luke 1:1-4 and Acts 1:1) Has God ever used you to communicate His message? How?

    2. To whom was the book of Acts written? (1:1) Who was the first person to tell you about Jesus?

    3. How many days was Jesus on the earth after His resurrection? (1:3) If you had a little over a month before leaving the earth, what would you do for your friends?

    4. What did Jesus promise to send from Heaven? (1:4-5) How is the Holy Spirit a comfort to us?

    5. What hid Jesus from the eyes of the apostles when He ascended? (1:9) What things or people hide Jesus from our eyes today?

    6. From what hill did Jesus ascend? (1:12) This was a very special place to Jesus and His friends. Do you have a similar place? What makes it special?

    7. To what city did the apostles go after watching Jesus ascend? (1:12) Jesus told his apostles to go to this city and wait. Why is waiting on God so difficult?

    8. What did each of the apostles do after arriving in this city? (1:14) Stop right now and ask God to act upon a need that you have.

    9. The word akeldama means field of what? (1:19) The money used to buy this field was the same that was used to betray Christ. Consider other ways that money is used today in an attempt to kill the Christian movement.

    10. What man was chosen to take the place of Judas? (1:26) Describe the feeling of being selected to be on a team, committee, or club.

    Step Five: Do the Doodle!

Read the chapter of Acts indicated above, then draw a picture that illustrates your favorite part of this chapter or invent a better picture clue for this chapter.
