Boog & Zaharie - Naya Morgan

    Nayton Phantom Bayliss

Today is the day I’ve been waiting for since the moment I dropped down on one knee. It’s the day I’m marrying the woman of my dreams, Dior Zuri Valentino.

    "I can’t believe it’s true,

I’m standing here in front of you

And you are here with me.

So unbelievable, I’ll never ever let you go

My heart is yours for keeps."

I turned at the sound of KC & JoJo’s ‘This very moment’, which indicated my beautiful bride was making her way down the aisle. I swallowed the huge lump that grew in my throat as I fought to hold back the tears that threatened to fall when we locked eyes. She obviously didn’t put up much of a fight against crying, because even with the veil covering her face I could see the tears falling effortlessly down her face. She stepped in tune with the music as she made her way to me, accompanied by her grandfather.

"This is the day that I prayed for

And you are the girl of my dreams

    And my place in life,

Is right here by your side

    On this day,

    This Very Moment."

Once they made it directly in front of me, her grandfather, Marco, lifted her veil from her face and kissed her cheek before placing her hand in mine. I felt like the luckiest man in the world as she stood across from me and the pastor began to speak. I looked her up and down, taking in every detail of her so that it would forever be implanted in my memory when I thought of this day. She was adamant about me not seeing the dress she picked out until this very moment, and to say it was beautiful would be an understatement. The sweetheart neckline dipped just enough for me to see some cleavage but covered the rest to make it appropriate for the ceremony. The mermaid style hugged every curve of her body that I couldn’t wait to explore once we were done entertaining our guest. I could see the slight protrusion of her belly, which housed my baby. She’s three months pregnant and although we had chosen not to share the news with our families yet, we were both ecstatic when we found out. This day and this woman are perfect. Everything went by without a hitch and then finally, the moment I had been longing for.

I now pronounce you husband and wife. Nayton, you may kiss your bride, the pastor recited. I wasted no time planting my hands on Zuri’s hips and pulling her into me. I slipped my tongue into her mouth and we engaged in a long, intimate kiss. One that we became so caught up in, we almost forgot we were in a room full of our relatives. The cheering that erupted from the crowd brought our attention back to the ceremony.

It is with great honor that I present to you, Mr. and Mrs. Nayton Bayliss! The pastor raised his voice to speak over the crowd. I held my wife’s hand and we turned to face the cheerful audience. I looked down at her to see her face was still covered in tears, but the huge smile she wore made it evident that they were tears of joy. I wrapped my arm around her waist and bent down to whisper in her ear.

What you crying for ma? This is supposed to be a happy moment. I cracked a half smile.

Aside from birthing my son, I don’t think I have ever been happier. She looked up at me with dreamy eyes and stole a kiss, which I fully engaged in. We were interrupted by her son and my stepson, Moni approaching us and tugging at my pants leg. I lifted him into my arms as we started back down the aisle, and that’s when I saw him. It was like I was seeing a ghost and for a second, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. I turned to look behind me and see if my baby brother, Boog was peeping the scene, but he was engrossed in a conversation with his baby momma, Zaharie who was holding their 3-month old daughter, Nyona. Glad that I was one to never go anywhere without my Glock, I reached behind my back to make sure it was easily accessible in case I had to protect my family.

Babe, who is that? Don’t I know him? Zuri asked, catching my swift motion and confirming that what I was seeing was real. My little cousin, NuNu Bayliss, whom I thought my brother killed over a year ago, was standing inside the same church where my wedding was taking place. After setting us up all those months ago, that nigga had some nerve showing his face again. I ignored my wife’s question and continued down the aisle, never looking away from NuNu’s face. He made his exit before we could get to close to each other but Zuri and I made our exit soon after, followed by everyone else in the church. Once Zuri was bombarded by family, friends and co-workers, I put Moni on his feet and made my way back into the men’s locker room where I rummaged through Boog’s clothes until I found his car keys. I then exited out the back of the church where I spotted NuNu hopping into a blue Nissan Maxima. I studied the license plate as he pulled off then went to the side of the church where I knew Boog parked and got into his car. I rode through the alleyway behind the church then pulled into the heavy street traffic. Once I spotted the car NuNu was in, I started to follow him at a distance. I damn near raised this nigga so I knew he would catch onto me following him eventually, but I had to know what possessed him to show up at my wedding. I removed Boog’s gun from the glove department and sat it on the seat while removing my gun from the back of my waistline and putting it on my lap.

He picked up his speed and I knew that he finally saw me following him. I didn’t give a fuck though; I had a job to finish. He made three lefts then a right and I knew he was trying to make sure I was on him. When he realized I wasn’t letting up, he sped up even more. I put the gas pedal to the floor because I was willing to flip his ass in traffic if I had to. My phone vibrated in my pocket causing me to ease up on the gas slightly. I thought about it being either Zuri or my family probably wondering where the hell I went, but I couldn’t let it distract me too much because one wrong move could initiate me becoming a victim. After about five minutes, my phone was still vibrating, but I was still focusing on the task at hand. NuNu turned into a dead-end alleyway and a weird aura immediately coursed through my body. I grabbed Boog’s Smith & Wesson, taking it off safety, then cocking it back to put one in the head before I put one in the head of my own. As soon as I looked back up I heard a gun go off, the windshield shattered, and I felt a burning sensation in my chest. I immediately raised both guns and let them off. I hit NuNu in his arm, making him duck for cover before a dude and a girl came from the lone building on the street that appeared to be abandoned. I pointed a gun at each of them and fired rapidly, trying to get them up off me. I hit the dude in his leg before a shot to my left arm caused me to take my aim off the girl. Bullets ripped through my body making me feel as if someone set my insides on fire. Blood dripped from my forehead into my eyes and my vision became blurry. I used the little bit of strength I had left to put the car in reverse and floor the gas pedal so I could accelerate backwards while still firing the gun I held in my right hand. Once I got back onto the main street, a car came speeding into the passenger side of the car before they could stop. The impact caused me to bang my head off the driver’s side window. It hit so hard that I bounced back and slumped over towards the passenger seat. I became too dizzy to even try to pick myself up. I leaned over and looked down at my body as I bled out. I couldn’t tell how many times I had been hit, but I knew it was a lot. I’m always so insistent about Boog not going into shit without a plan and here I was, going into shit like a fucking rookie. I took slow, deep breaths trying my best to cling onto life. The last thing I felt was my phone vibrate in my pocket. I thought about my wife and how I left her on our wedding day only to end up somewhere slumped over in my brother’s car. Feeling defeated, I dropped my gun and reached into my pocket to answer it.

Babe, where are you at? That was the last thing I heard before everything went black.

    Zaharie Valentino

It has been two months since Nayton got shot and Boog just hasn’t been the same. The doctors said that he was lucky someone found him when they did because he had so much external and internal bleeding going on. They were able to stop the bleeding but were still nervous about the swelling to his brain, so they put him into a medically induced coma. Two weeks ago, the doctors said the swelling had decreased significantly and took him off the meds, but he hasn’t woken up yet. He was shot eight times, and no one has a clue about who it was that shot him. For that reason and others, he is being kept in a secluded medical center where Boog paid a lot of money to make sure he’s the only patient and no one except approved family is able to enter or exit. The news outlets were all over it being that he’s a successful business owner, but they’ve calmed down a lot over the past month or so. Luckily for Boog, most of the world doesn’t realize they’re brothers, but he still had to deal with the reporters who do. Zuri hasn’t been taking it well and prefers to stay secluded, mainly because of the reporters that have been harassing her. So, I’m trying to give her space while still supporting her and from what I can see, she’s making it through fine. I’m more worried about Boog because he hasn’t been his normal self since. He hasn’t been flirtatious or talkative like he normally is. I had been trying to give him his space, so I kept Nyona at my dad’s house for the past two months without bothering him unless he asked to see her. But, working and tending to a 5-month old baby has been taking its toll on my body lately, so I came to his house so I could finally get some good rest. He didn’t fight me against it or even try his luck with me laying sprawled out on his bed, which came as a surprise. I lay there restless wondering if he would ever be back to his normal self without his brother. After a while, I finally started to drift off to sleep until the sounds of Nyona’s cries filled the room.

Ugh! Boog, I know you’re going through a lot right now, but I just want to get some sleep for one minute please, I snapped.

I mean, I’m sorry to bother you, he spoke in a sarcastic manner. But my baby girl is hungry and you’re the one with the food supply. He pointed towards my chest. I looked down at my aching titties and realized I had forgotten to pump. Glancing over at the clock I learned that I had been laying in his bed for over three hours and instantly felt bad for my attitude towards him.

Sorry, I mumbled as I held my hands out to accept Nyona from him. As soon as she was in my arms, he turned to leave the room and that just wasn’t like him. He would always watch me feed her and ask one thousand questions. I guess in a way I was missing the annoying shit he did.

Naytel! I called and he stepped back to peek inside the room.

    Wassup?

Come here, we need to talk. I waved him over. He stood there for a second before taking a deep breath and moving towards me.

What we need to talk about Zee? He rubbed his hand across his head. It seemed like forever since I heard him call me that and my lady parts instantly began to tingle.

You. How you’re taking your brother being in a hospital bed and not waking up yet.

I mean, I’m taking it cool I guess. He shrugged. I’m good ‘cause I know he’s gon’ be good. He sounded like he was trying to convince himself more than me.

I’m worried about you Naytel. Don’t think I haven’t noticed that you haven’t been acting like yourself lately.

Whatchu mean? He slid his tongue across his bottom lip and toyed with the small bush of hair on his chin. Everything he did was sexy to me right now, reminding me of the first time we met on Layla’s porch. I guess I spent so much time fighting against being with him that I
