About this ebook

I never asked to witness the end of my civilization. Never asked to see the charred bodies of my parents, and our cities reduced to ashes.

I was singing in the biggest venue of my birthplace when the invaders's ships made our sky black, and the slaughter began.

That was just the beginning.

They put me and the other captured prisoners into a cargo ship. All singers. Just like me.

Now I'm on a planet called Husayon. I am chained. I am a slave. Forced to sing for my masters, who feed on my music.

I don't know how long I will last here. The only thing I know is that my music is my curse and my greatest gift.

It could be the only thing that saves what's left of my species from complete extinction.

If you like a page-turner, edge-of-your-seat suspenseful story, you will love Glass Into Steel.

    Introduction

The story you’re about to read is free of charge because I am learning the craft of writing in English (my second language) and would love to hear your feedback if you get to the end.

I’m a firm believer in the power of repetition and the equally powerful force known as ‘habits.’ I didn’t learn English by going to school, or by studying grammar. I learned it by reading and writing, and then reading and writing some more. I’ve been doing this steadily for about two years now, after deciding I was going to write and publish a book in English, the scariest thing I set my mind on doing in the past few years.

I hear all the time established authors talk about their style and their voice, and how they craft their stories. If you ask me about my style, about my voice, about world-building and pacing and tension, all you’ll get from me is a gaping mouth.

I have no answers to these questions. I don’t know what my style is; I don’t even know what having a ‘voice’ is supposed to mean.

I hope you can help me figure out some answers to these questions.

If you want, you can fire me an email at hello@micheleamitrani.com to let me know what I did right and what I did not so right.
