Brad Jensen

THE LAND BETWEEN THE GREAT LAKES
Once upon a time, not so long ago, there was a little girl called Lyla. Lyla had blonde curls and a button nose and she loved to wear the purple dress that her grandmother had given her. Lyla lived with her parents and three cute kittens in the Land between the Great Lakes. The lakes were so big that one could not see the other side. You could ride the waves like in the ocean. Lyla liked the lakes and the water, but she also liked the forest near her house. For Lyla, it was a magical forest because it was teeming with animals: tame squirrels, clever raccoons, nimble deer, sleepy woodchucks and black and white striped skunks. Since Lyla had no brothers or sisters, she liked to go to the Wunderwald forest. She loved animals and was never afraid of them. She did not have to be afraid either, for her friends and protectors, the little forest fairies, also lived in the Wunderwald. Like the meadow fairies and the house fairies, they were very happy every time Lyla came to visit and to play with them.
