    “I can see it,” glancing over, “I wouldn’t want to go up against that mind!”

    “Bullshit! You are way smarter than me!”

    “No,” Merri says, turning a little serious, placing a hand on the other’s wrist, “I’m not. Never have been. You just don’t see yourself that way.”

    Pulse thumping, Alex considers her options. Pick up the gauntlet, risk opening old wounds? Let it go, have a pleasant drink and move on? As she ponders, her eyes catch a glimpse of the hand, a scar across the back, one that runs half way down the thumb, then up her arm. “Jesus,” feeling faint.
    Pulling her arm back, “it’s fine now.”
