FOREWORD

The book Signs of the End simply tells us that the world is moving toward a definite goal and that there is a new final order of affairs beyond the present. It is the doctrine of the consummation of the world-process in a supreme crisis leading on to a permanent state. Rev. Samuel Orji has shown that he is capable of conceiving the importance of eschatology in creation, which is a sure sign of his concept of God. Every Pastor’s concept of God determines what he or she will preach, and how he or she lives his or her life. A God who cannot create cannot consummate things because he is conditioned by something outside himself. Eschatology determines leadership and governance in the church. The principles of hermeneutics, homiletics, and teachings on prosperity – health and wealth – are useless without the proper knowledge of eschatology. The biblical redemption aims at a new creation and nothing less than that. The biblical redemption does not promise a trouble free world of bliss to those who are born again. The biblical redemption talks of individual as well as collective eschatology, which prosperity preachers have ignored. A veil hangs over the church preachers and leaders who measure success in the ministry by the number of Jeeps and estates one has acquired in this transient life. A veil hangs over the hearts of church leaders and preachers who divide the people of God for their personal ego and self-interest. A proper knowledge and understanding of eschatology enables the minister of the church to focus on preparing God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming [Ephesians 4¹²-¹⁴].

In this book Rev. Samuel Orji highlights and discusses the following pertinent themes namely, The signs of the end time; Intermediate state; The Second coming of Christ; Post Rapture Experience; The great tribulation; The war of Armageddon; The Millennial kingdom; The final Rebellion; The final Judgment; The New Heaven and New Earth; and The Lake of Fire. He broke down each theme and with the support of the scriptures authenticated every claim and pointer that culminates the end-time. This concept of time should give all Christians identity; our concept of the end-time confirms to us the value of our existence and our services. In the Bible, the Word of God, we see very clearly the steps of God in creation, redemption, and consummation. In this book, Rev. Orji is pointing the church to the linear direction of history as revealed in the book of Revelation. The right understanding of God at work in history reminds us that no plan of ours is meaningful outside God’s plan. This is why it is futile to shift the gaze of the people of God to fleeting comfort and prosperity of a world destined for destruction.

I recommend the book to end-time ministers of the gospel for use in Bible study, group, and family devotion at home and in work places. The book is not intended for academic classroom engagement so that a sense of I have finished my course on eschatology is diminished, for no one, except those who have gone to be with the Lord can for sure say, I have finished my course in eschatology. The inordinate concept of I have arrived while still living on earth is unscriptural and misleading in the execution of the mandate of the end-time message committed to Christians who eagerly await the Lord’s return. The book of Revelations speaks of martyrs beneath the altar who called out to God in a loud voice, How long Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood? And God says, I am waiting for others –fellow-servants, brothers-who were to be killed as they had been was completed. Do those still to be killed include you and me? We should prepare ourselves for this. It is with this mindset and spirit that we are able to shun the modern day spirit of possession and fights over leadership positions and wealth-acquisition in the churches.

Preface

The world is gradually moving towards the end, end time prophesies and events written in the Bible are gradually fulfilling. This is bringing us closer to the rapture of the church which will take place during the first phase of the second coming of Christ. From scriptural perspective, the rapture may take place any moment from now.

This book discuss about the signs of the end time, intermediate stage, second coming of Christ, post rapture experiences, the war of Armageddon, the millennial reign of Christ, the final judgment, etc. It captures vividly the glorious beauty of the new heaven and new earth-the eternal home of God, the holy angels and the saints. The horrific nature of the lake of fire (which is the eternal abode of the wicked) is equally elaborated.

This book provides a way to escape eternal condemnation in hell through call for repentance and faith in Christ. It is an eye opener to everyone who have eternity in view and a door to heaven through its call for a life of righteousness. I encourage everyone to read it, believe it, practice and teach it till we meet with Christ in heaven.

Chapter One

SIGNS OF THE END TIME

The disciples of Jesus once asked Him three questions about things that will happen in the future. The scripture says As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately.Tell us, they said, when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?" (Matt 24:3 NIV). They wanted to know three things about: the temple, the signs of the second advent of Christ and; the signs of the end of the age. We shall consider how Jesus responded to each of these questions.

The Destruction of the Temple

This question was prompted by the prediction Jesus made concerning the destruction of the temple in Jerusalem when the people directed His attention to the beauty and glory of the temple. He pointed out that the temple will be completely destroyed by invading enemies, Matthew puts it this way: Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings.
