About this ebook

There are millions of people who have died in the hospital and been "brought back" with modern-day resuscitation techniques. Many near-death-experiencers (NDERS) report that within minutes of their heart stopping, their soul emerges from the body and was on the ceiling looking down. They can later recall in detail the steps taken by the medical team to resuscitate the body, and can recall conversations by family and friends in the waiting room. Many NDERS also have an encounter with a younger version of deceased relatives and some encounter a "Being of Light" that radiates love and goodness. Based on these stories, it becomes apparent that there is a life after our earthly existence, and our time on earth is very short compared to eternity. The message throughout this book is that God loves us with an incredible unconditional love, and He gives us free will to choose whether we want a closer walk with God and His Son, Jesus. We are all children of God and have been given a piece of the light of God called the soul. Truly made in His image, the soul never ages, and is more beautiful than the angels. He wants us all to be with Him in our next life in a place that has been prepared for us.

Jerry Yates, MD

During his second year in college, while struggling with chemistry and calculus, Dr. Yates felt like he had lost his way from his childhood faith. He began to doubt the path he had been led to in medicine and sought a closer relationship with God by visiting a different church every Sunday. He prayed for guidance in his life, but at each place he visited, he felt like an outsider looking in. Frustrated, he gave up on his search. One spring morning, he walked to the lake on campus and sat down on the grass with bible in hand. When he opened his bible, it "Happened" to open to Psalm 23. As he read, a bright light appeared in the sky, and Jesus sat down on the grass beside him. This changed his life and gave him the will to go on. He began a closer walk with our loving God and His Son, Jesus. Dr. Yates went on to graduate and met and married the school nurse and completed medical school. They had two sons during their thirty-one year marriage. After eight years in the army medical corps, he and his family were guided to Seattle, Washington where he practiced medicine for thirty years and brought over five thousand babies into the world. He retired from medicine in 2006 and now lives in Canada with his wife.

    Made in God’s Image

Then God said, Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness. *

*Genesis 1:26. New King James Version.

This book is dedicated to Sybil, the mother of my two sons, to Michael and Brad, my sons whom I love dearly, to Jessica, the love of my life forever, and to Jehovah God and His Son, Jesus, my love and companions in this life and the next.

    Foreword

It is rumored by bible scholars that Moses was the author of some of the books of the Old Testament. After they were translated from their original languages Hebrew, Aramaic or Greek, there have been no explanations regarding the meaning of Genesis 1:26: Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness. We are granted some insight into the answer when we explore the appearance of Jesus in the gospels after the resurrection in Mark 16:9 and John 20:16-18 when he appeared to Mary Magdalene. In Luke 24: 15-31 and verses 36-53, Jesus appeared to his disciples in a recognizable form. With our modern-day resuscitation techniques, millions of people have been brought back from a near-death experience. They have memory of the events that transpired in a recognizable, free-of-pain-and-disease -free body when their heart stopped. Some met and recognized deceased relatives. They have written books about their experiences. I believe, dear reader, that after we explore these experiences, we will have a better understanding of why we are ALL children of God and are made in His image.

    Chapter 1

God the Father, Jesus the Son, and God the Holy Spirit

    Genesis 1:26

Then God said, Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness.

What does this mean and why do most of the translators of the different translations refer to US in the creation?

    Jesus the Son

The Gospel according to John in the New testament provides us with some insight on this question.

    John 1:1-2

In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.

    John 1:14

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we had a view of his glory, a glory such as belongs to an only begotten son from a father, full of grace and truth.

    John 1:34

John states And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.

Jesus was baptized by John and a voice from heaven was heard.

    Luke 3:21-22

When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, heaven was opened. And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.

    Matthew 17:1-2

Jesus took Peter, James and John on a high mountain, His face shone like the sun.

    Matthew 17:5

While He was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!

    God the Father

Jesus referred to God, the Father in many instances in the New Testament. When he was only twelve years old, He accompanied Mary and Joseph to Jerusalem for the festival of the Passover. Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem when they departed, and they did not notice it at first.

    Luke 2: 45-50

So when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him. Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers… So when they saw Him they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, Son, why have you done this to us? Look, your father and I have sought you anxiously. And He said to them, Why did you seek me? Did you not know that I must be about my Father’s business? But they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them.

In John 14, Jesus again refers to His Father.

    John 14:23-24

Jesus answered and said to him, If anyone loves me, he will keep My word; and my Father will love him, and We will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent me.

    John 14:28

You have heard Me say to you, "I am going away and coming back to you. If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, I am going to the Father, for My Father is greater than I.

    John 15:15

But I have called you friends, because all the things I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.

In Matthew 6, Jesus refers to His Father when he teaches the people how to pray.

    Matthew 6:8-9

"Therefore, do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven hallowed be Your Name.

In Matthew 26, on the night before Jesus’ crucifixion, He knew that all the evil deeds and thoughts of mankind were going to be placed on Him the next day.

    Matthew 26:39

And going a little way forward, he fell upon His face, praying and saying My Father, If it is possible, let this cup pass away from me. Yet, not as I will, but as you will.

Jesus asks to not go through the crucifixion the next day, and He knows all the details of what was going to happen.

God feels our pain and suffers with us. In Psalms, David points this out.

    Psalm 56:8

You number my wanderings; Put my tears into your bottle; are they not in your book?

God keeps track because none of our sufferings and losses will be restored in heaven. Only good memories remain.

Isaiah also points out how God suffers with us.

    Isaiah 63:9(New Living Translation)

In all their suffering He also suffered, and He personally rescued them. In His love and mercy, He redeemed them.

When Jesus was dying on the cross, God was forced to turn His back on His Son because, in His perfection, He could not stand to be in the presence of all our evil thoughts and deeds being put on Jesus.

    Matthew 27:4

And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying My God, MY God, why have You forsaken me?

God suffered with His Son, and we see that through the events that took place with Jesus’ death.

    Matthew 27:50-54

And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His
