About this ebook

When a teenage girl is mysteriously murdered in cold blood in Brownwood Crescent, a rookie detective will find himself thrown headfirst into a mysterious homicide case.

Fresh out of police training where he graduated as the best student in his class, Ricky Bluewaters had joined the City Police Force with wide-eyed optimism and dreams for a glorious career in law enforcement.

But fate had other plans for him.

Attached to the team that investigated homicides and deadly crime cases, Rick's career honeymoon phase came to an abrupt end. Amidst his disillusionment setting in with his role as a rookie detective in cases he'd prayed he wouldn't have to be involved in, Rick was tapped by the police chief to head the case.

With his career on the line, and tensions running high in the neighborhood, as well as the dead girl's boyfriend and brother willing to take matters into their own hands, Rick must find a way to bring the murderer to justice.

Will Rick manage to solve the crime before time runs out?

Breathless is the first part in the Brett novella following the adventures. If you're a fan of fast-moving crime thrillers and mystery novels with a gripping plot and unforgettable characters, then you need to grab your copy of this exciting mystery by Samantha Gordon!

    CHAPTER ONE

H urry up, Theo, we 're running late she called from outside the flat.

I'll be there in a minute, have you seen my sweater? her brother called from inside.

Check in your drawer, I'm heading outside!  Hurry! she warned, still at the top of her voice.

They were already running late, and she knew they'd both miss the city bus if she spent more time waiting for her brother. Perhaps if she got there in time, she could keep a space for him and if he was lucky, he'd get there before the bus needed to take off. She wondered how he would cope without her when she'd gained admission into college the next year, he had developed the habit of going to school late and she wasn't comfortable with it. She walked the aisle that led out of the building, taking her time to give him the chance to catch up with her.

Etta! Mummy, come see Etta is here, her neighbour's son, Jason shouted.

Wondering why the boy was so delighted, she moved on closer to say hello.

Hello, little man! How are you today? she questioned with a hearty smile. He was all dressed up and she concluded he was going somewhere with his mother, perhaps school.

I'm fine, thanks, Etta. You look so good this morning. How are you? The boy asked concernedly.

She couldn't help her blushing; the boy was barely three years old and he had already learnt the art of complimenting.

She was sure he'd have done better if he wasn't a child. Plus, she didn't know where he heard it but ever since he became familiar with her, she observed that apart from her younger brother, he was the only one that called her the hackneyed form of her name.

She knew it would be more or less useless if she tried to correct and teach him the right pronunciation of her name, so she just let him be, giving him the license to share the privilege with her younger brother. She peeked at her wristwatch
