About this ebook
Freelance platforms are a relatively new invention. They serve as an online meeting place for those who are looking for projects to work on and those who are looking for freelancers to support them outside of 'traditional' employment settings.
Freelance marketplaces can be great and help each party to pursue their goal. However, should you pick the wrong platform your endeavour will not be successful.
This is why we created this book. Here you will find detailed reviews of various freelance platforms including the benefits to entrepreneurs/businesses and freelancers. Since every marketplace caters for a different need, we will also inform you for whom they are suitable.
This is truly the most comprehensive guide to freelance marketplaces!

Freelancer.com
Freelancer.com (Freelancer Technology Pty Limited) is one of the world’s largest freelancing and crowdsourcing marketplaces. Founded in 2009 and listed on the Australian Security Exchange it has steadily grown over the past 8 years, acquiring other freelance platforms such as EUFreelance.com and Freelancer.co.uk.
There are currently 22.6 million registered users, and more than 10.8 million posted jobs, of which 18,000 are live jobs. As with many of the popular freelance platforms, there is an enormous range of freelance jobs available, and not just one specialty. Freelancer.com claims to have experts representing every technical, professional and creative field
. According to research, the most sought after freelancers on Freelancer.com are the ones in design, media and architecture, and the skill most advertised by freelancers is writing. For designers, there are also regular contests hosted by clients offering larger amounts of money for designing something that the client requires; a new company logo for example.
How to get started on Freelancer.com as a freelancer
REGISTERING YOURSELF as a freelancer is very simple, and unlike other platforms you won’t need to wait for approval before you can begin applying for jobs. Simply register an account, create a profile, and list your skills. After this you will automatically be redirected to the main user hub and a list of ‘jobs that match your skills’ will be displayed below. The results displayed are completely searchable and a number of filters can be applied. You can even search for specific types of projects by using keywords.
Once you’ve found a suitable job to apply for, open the project and select ‘Bid on Project’ to apply. Projects advertised by clients are either fixed price or based on an hourly rate. You are able to choose how much you want to charge for your services and how long it will take you to complete the project, as long as it is within the range specified by the client. On the other hand, if you want to enter a contest, you need to submit your design first and you will only be paid should you win the contest. It’s
