About this ebook

Is a kiss the premise of the act or an act in itself? What role do the lips and the tongue play in the lovers’ encounter? What are its means and its uses throughout history and societies? Such are the questions and analyses that Professor Döpp tackles in this book with both talent and intelligence. Richly illustrated with pieces from the author’s illustrious collection, this work is a treat for the eyes and the mind.

This is one of a series of medium-length essays written by Döpp and later published by Parkstone Press in larger format, under the title 'Erotic Fantasy' (2006). Each essay is copiously (and gloriously) illustrated in excellent colour with examples of art intended to both compliment (and complement) the subject matter, and it is mostly these illustrations which accompany the essays in the synoptic work. The cover title 'The Kiss' of this volume is internally titled 'Oral Pleasures', and considers all aspects of using the lips to cause and derive sensual pleasure, although the author here is somewhat disapproving of what might be termed 'the back-door approach'. As with all of this series, the art reproductions are superb, some from Döpp's own collection, and the analysis of the kissing phenomenon is extensive, if not particularly profound.
