About this ebook

The Holy Spirit, a great personality with presence in the life of every believer. Full of power and glory, an ever abiding friend. The words Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit baptism, Holy Ghost, et cetera are words that have earned a reputation among the body of Christ as being popular. The name Holy Spirit is everywhere on our lips. Even a 10-year-old can tell you something about the Holy Spirit. This popular personality is no stranger to many of us. Some of us have read Holy Spirit books, we have dug some deeper information on Holy Ghost books, we have had Holy Spirit baptism experience, yet we have not learned one very important thing – how to make the Holy Spirit our friend.

We have known the Holy Spirit as mentioned in several preaching and sermons. But it is however sad that our knowledge has not translated into concrete friendship with the third person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit. He is everywhere around us and he longs for our friendship. But the problem has always been with the believer who does not know how to make this third person of the Trinity, the Holy Ghost a good friend.

Friends, it doesn’t matter how long you have been saved. It only matters how much you have made the Holy Spirit your friend. The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit is forever going to be present with us from the day we submitted ourselves to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and even to eternity. The Holy Spirit is going to be present from the day we were saved and he is also going to be present throughout our life in eternity. It bothers me how we take our time to study in the college for four years or even five years depending on your chosen field. However, the third person of the Trinity, the Holy Ghost who will forever abide with us we do not know how to make him a good friend.

It is with such a burden that I write this book to you and it will help you in developing a solid friendship with the Holy Spirit. All through the Bible, believers who have been able to develop a friendship with the Holy Spirit, wielded enormous power of the spirit of God and their generation was never the same.

I urge you to read this book with an open mind and when the spirit of God prompts you to drop it for a short prayer, please do as the occasion serves you.

I await your testimony after reading this book: “On How the Holy Ghost Became Your Friend.”

    Introduction

The Holy Spirit is no stranger to many of us. We have heard him mentioned in our Sunday school, we have heard his name mentioned in several sermonette and preaching. On the computer and on the Internet he is everywhere. Try a little Google search on the Holy Spirit or the Holy Ghost and you will be surprised at the tons of information that will be churned out. As common as the name Holy Spirit is, how many of us actually know him. Understand how he works in our lives and what he wants us to do. But the present day believer is never passionate about knowing the Holy Ghost. He is rather content about hearing what the Holy Ghost does in the life of others. Oh, we bless God for the move of the Holy Spirit in the life of that beloved sister or beloved brother! I have nothing wrong with celebrating the works or move of the Holy Spirit in the life of a beloved brother or sister. I have everything wrong with it when it becomes the norm, the believer does not want to know how the Holy Ghost works in his life but is satisfied with hearing about the move of the spirit of God in the life of others.

We apply to the University to go and study for four years or five years in order to develop capacity in our chosen fields. Which is also good. But the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, who is to live with us forever we don’t want to know anything about him. The Bible says, do not grieve the Holy Spirit with whom you have been sealed for the day of redemption. So the relevancy of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer does not ends here on earth, it extends to eternity that is why the Bible says we should not grieve the Holy Spirit, the personality that will play a vital role even on the day of our redemption.

Jesus had a great understanding of the pivotal role that the Holy Spirit plays in the life of every man, so he walked closely with the Holy Spirit throughout the days of his ministration on the face of the earth. A friend of mine once said, that the Holy Ghost is closer to you than your skin. I agree. However, even though he is close to you, there is the apparent need to cultivate a friendship with him. His presence does not guarantee friendship. His presence in the life of every child of God is part of the unbroken covenant of salvation. Those who are led by the spirit of God are the sons of God. God is a giver. He gave his Son, Jesus Christ, on the cross of Calvary. He gave his Spirit, the Holy Ghost. But he does not give friendship. If he gives friendship, everyone on earth would have been his friend. You are to seek to build a friendship with him. It is conscious and deliberate effort which you must take.

Beloved, no matter what you do on the earth you need to know the Holy Spirit. It will do you good. You don’t need to be a pastor or a minister of the gospel to know the Holy Ghost and become his friend. When God was making the promise of the Holy Spirit in the book of Acts chapter 1 verse eight, God did not say all you pastors and ministers of the gospel will receive the Holy Ghost. The Bible says, the promise of the Holy Spirit is for you and for all of your children and even for those whom the Lord our God will subsequently call into the gospel of Christ Jesus.

This book was birthed in order to help the believer to understand the ways to build a friendship with the Holy Ghost. I pray that this book will bless you beyond imagination, amen.

    Chapter 1

    The Place of the Baptism

The mark of God’s ownership over the life of every person who is saved is the presence of the Holy Spirit. At the new birth experience, the Holy Spirit instantly occupies the life of the new believer as a mark of God’s ownership. This accounts for the reason why the Bible says that it is those that are led by the Holy Spirit that are the sons of God. You see why the presence of the Holy Spirit is important in the life of every child of God because it is that presence of the Holy Ghost that indicates real ownership of the saved person. If the Holy Spirit is not in the life of any man, he does not belong to God.

We have established above that the Holy Spirit is given to every believer at the new birth. But if the believer wants a higher dimension of the spirit of God, there is a necessity for another experience – the baptism in the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues. The fullness of the Holy Spirit is necessary for establishing a good friendship with him. When the ministry of Jesus was drawing to a close, the disciples became confused. What will happen to us if the master departs from the earth? As this question was burning in their hearts, they decided to ask Jesus, When will the kingdom be restored unto Israel? Jesus immediately told them that they should not worry about that (Acts 1:4).

The disciples were used to having a physical friend. The Jesus that was with them on the
