How to Build a Life of Personal Devotion to God - Pius Joseph

    Devotion

    Introduction

Not slothful in business but fervent in spirit serving the Lord is an instructive word that God gave us in the book of Romans 12:15. One evident Mark that should be left in everything that we do is a life of devotion. From our service life, fellowship life, prayer life, fasting life, and Bible study life a constant devotion is required. The need for these becomes apparent as it takes consistency in the realm of the spirit to be able to get certain things from God.

There are blessings that are attached to the life of devotion. Zechariah was carrying out the constant priestly duty in the temple when he had an encounter with an angel of the Lord and the barrenness of his wife was broken. In every sphere of our lives, a devotional life is highly necessary. It is not just a one-day fast that you do that changes things in the spirit. Neither is it the one day Bible study you do that breaks the spiritual yoke off your life. Nor is it the once in a while service that brings the blessing of God upon your life. It is the consistency of that service, prayer, fasting, Bible study, that changes the life of a child of God. And when these things are done with a sense of personal devotion to God a tremendous amount of changes occurs in the life of a believer.

Whenever believers pray and ask God for more fire, what they are asking God for in a nutshell is pour your grace of personal devotion into my life. When the grace of personal devotion is abundant in the life of a child of God, he won’t be comfortably feeding his flesh with physical food while his spirit man is dying in starvation. The believer knows that there is a prayer to be prayed, and Bible study to be carried out personally to be able to grow in Christ Jesus.

I present to you this down-to-earth book of building a personal devotion in other to serve God effectively.

As you read this book, whenever the Holy Spirit prompts you to drop it and pray, do so.

God bless you, and I await your testimony of the life of personal Devotion.

    Chapter 1

    Word Devotion

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly are the inspired words of the Holy Ghost given to build God’s children and to give us an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

    Colossians 3:16

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

A believer’s life is tied intricately to the word and that word is the foundation of his Christian life. Every encounter with the word of God is an encounter with the person of the word – Jesus Christ.

    John 1:1-4

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

We know it is a popularly quoted Scripture that says man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Our success as believers cannot be separated from the word. God told Joshua in the book of Joshua 1:8:

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

There is a difference between success and good success. A man that has good success has peace as the Bible says the blessings of God makes rich and adds no sorrow. The believer who wants to grow beyond his present spiritual realities must not ignore the place of word devotion also known as Bible study life. Whenever the devil wants to attack a child of God, he focuses on his word devotional life. The believer just notices that lethargy sets in and the Bible that he loves reading become disinteresting. The devil is fully aware that if we don’t abide in the word, our strength will wane and when feebleness becomes the order of the day
