About this ebook
Let us consider as one of the adjuncts to spiritual growth the matter of the Spiritual Diary.
The Spiritual Diary is a record of your efforts and experiences on the Spiritual Path and helps you communicate with your Higher Self and, eventually, with the Master.
A problem we all come up with on the Path is attachment. Could you really, at a moment’s notice, given the wherewithal, uproot yourself and go and undertake a task for the Master? Would you be able to withstand loneliness for five years? Would you be able to withstand the contempt and ridicule of the world for five years?
When people are attached, they tend not to be able to perform a task of importance given to them by the Master. An attachment is not easy to recognize.

THE SPIRITUAL DIARY
Here is a lovely story which describes how insidious attachments can be:
An old woman, who had been mean and grouchy throughout her life, finally passed through the Golden Gate of Death. She found herself, as one might suspect, in a very unpleasant place. It was always excessively hot there, and she was forced by demons to do all kinds of disagreeable work. This, of course, was not to her liking, but there wasn’t much she could do about it.
On Earth, she could have written to her Congressman or lodged a complaint in court, but such methods were not applicable in this overheated furnace. Finally she appealed, to all places, to Heaven. Day after day she prayed for the right to emigrate and get out of her misery.
After a time, her plea was heard, and a resplendent Angel appeared at the place where Heaven and Hell abut upon one another. The Angel was sympathetic but not very encouraging. Hmm. Your record doesn’t do you much credit,
he said.
And we can’t arbitrarily make exceptions just for you. Search your memory, my dear. See if you can remember doing a single good deed whilst you were on Earth. If you can find one deed that was good, we perhaps may be able to help you.
The old lady brooded a long time, trying to remember performing at least one good deed. After a time, she recollected that she had once in her Earthly
