George Stout was born in Winterset, Iowa on October 5, 1897. Winterset is located in the south western region of Iowa and it is a destination that contains some historical significance. There are many landmarks that are over 100 years old in Winterset and it is also the birthplace of the famous western actor John Wayne.
George had a normal childhood in a safe and welcoming town. He realized that he had a passion for learning at an early age and he did quite well with his studies. George attended the Winterset public school system and after graduating high school he decided to enlist with the United States Armed Forces.
World War 1 was taking place and every available man in America was eager to serve their country. George had a set of skills that allowed him to work away from the dangerous front lines and help the other soldiers. His medical training allowed for him to serve in a military hospital where he treated soldiers who had been injured in battle.

Introduction
George Stout was a great American hero who made a very significant impact on people all over the world. Many people are unaware of the great contributions that Mr. Stout has made towards preserving the worlds culture. There was a time during World War 2 when important monuments and artifacts were being systematically stolen. Once these important cultural heritage pieces were stolen, they were either hidden or destroyed.
This book was created to teach the people of the world about George Stout and his inspirational life story because it can provide anyone with a better idea of their own culture and historical significance. George has been dead for many years and people are just beginning to discover the great impact this man has made, due to a renewed interest in cultural history. There are still many important cultural artifacts that are in danger today and George’s work is sure to inspire the next generation of Monuments Men.
George is referred to as a Monuments Men because that is the name of the group that he served with during most of World War 2. A Monuments Men is someone who has an understanding of important cultural monuments and works of art around the world. They take action during times of conflict to ensure that these cultural items are not damaged or destroyed by working with the United States Armed Forces. A person does not
