From the governor of Pennsylvania, Tom Corbett, who opposes Lebanon to garner Amish votes and promote the idyllic, rural and seemingly backwater lifestyle the Amish have been demonstrating for centuries, to educators such as Professor Kraybill who, according to Lebanon, had no idea about the real side of Amish life and spouts, 'Rose tinted pronouncements.'
In every society, Amish included, there are elements of good and bad with the majority of people hovering somewhere in between, just trying to make their way in the world. With the younger generation of Amish being ever more exposed to technology and the modern world, a split is forming between them and the Old Order Amish who want people to believe they all ride in horse drawn buggies and do not want their photograph taken for religious reasons.
So how is it possible for Lebanon to be able to reveal all these facets of Amish society without the risk of reprisals? According to Lebanon, there are a few reasons, his fame
