Born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. Sojourner McConnell lives in Winchester, Kentucky with one of her daughters and three of her thirteen grandchildren. She has six grandchildren in Alabama and four that live in Michigan. With all those children and grandchildren, she has crafted her storytelling skills. Chapter One

The rain beat down on the little cabin in the village with a tap, tap, tap. The circle of houses ringed a community fire pit complete with logs stacked for evenings when the rain had cleared. Dolcey looked out and saw the logs were getting damper and damper by the minute. Darn the rain, I want to go out and play, to fly and to chase my friends Flindra and Nurine . Dolcey's lower lip drooped in frustration. Without thinking, she shrugged gruffly and stood up.

She stomped through the small cabin calling out, Mama? Can we do something fun? I can't stand this rain. It's never going to stop. We are going to be washed out to sea!

As she peered into each little room, she didn't bother to think about her sour mood, she just wanted her mother to respond. Mama? Are you here? Are you listening to me? I'm bored!
