Dañiel L. Garcia

Dañiel L. Garcia was born in Bitburg, Germany into a German/Puerto Rican household. Growing up with Star Trek, fantasy books, and American comics from his father he began reading from an early age. There is photographic evidence of his father holding a child in one arm while holding a book in the other, so it is indeed hereditary. After a short run in with computer science Dañiel matriculated at the University of Trier, initially studying Japanology and Computational Linguistics. He slowly leant towards a major in Japanology with two minors in English Literatue and Media Science, specialising in Film. The year of study in Japan reopened his eyes to writing and he began work on his "Daedala" story. In 2015 he graduated Magister Artium (~Master of Arts). Having already written most of the manuscript before starting his Magister thesis he continued to write after finding his day job. Inbetween he managed to self-publish his first work, the short story "Just For A While". Next to writing his book, he also worked as a freelance translator, and occasional animator. He is inspired by classic science fiction and fantasy themes, and likes creating characters with their own unique abilities and flaws.

    Scene 1

    I awoke.

    I could not hear,

    I could not see,

    I could not taste,

    I could not smell.

Everything felt hard and it remained dark. With my hands I tried to feel where I was, but I only felt that everything around me was hardness. I could barely move. The pulsing that I always felt in the back of my head since I could remember, since I lived in Hadesa, was gone. It was not just silent and yet present, as was sometimes the case, it had completely disappeared, dead.

Panic started to spread within me. It was tight, I wanted to get out of here. It was so tight that I feared I would suffocate. I started to struggle against the hardness. Nothing, the hardness was as solid as bone tissue or even stronger. I started to scream, maybe somebody could hear and free me. The only thing I managed to do was to almost make myself deaf with screaming. When my ears had recovered I tried it again. Tried to free myself. Tried to scream.

I don't know for how long I went on until I finally gave up. Neither the strain nor the fear of suffocation made me give up, but the question of 'How did I get here?' did and it preoccupied me. Had I fallen through a hole in the tissue and landed among armour-mycelia? Or had I arrived here via a tissue-tunnel? There were stories of careless wanderers that entered such tunnels, which then closed off and
