KILLED THE CAT

NEW YORK

Lexi pulled out the card key from her bag Onyx had lost in the private room at the club. She inserted it into the reader, granted access. She twisted the handle, took a deep breath, entered. While turning the dial for light the stale faint smell of marijuana, a strange pungent odor assaulted her nostrils. She stepped quietly careful not to make a sound, shifting eyes, noticing right away the room was unkempt. It was clearly still being occupied. There was clothing she didn’t recognize, unsure whether male or female, tossed on the floor and bed. Her eyes watered when she saw Onyx’s brand of cologne, boxers, cigars scattered about. Miniature empty liquor bottles of Seagram’s gin lined the dresser. Who the hell you had in here ya fuck'n liar. I hate you oh my God the shit’s unreal. She whispered, picking up one of the bottles. She smelled it. It had crimson red lipstick smeared on it. Her heart thumped erratically as she was able to feel perspiration saturate her body. She tossed the bottle at the mirror. It ricocheted, knocked the rest of them onto the carpet like bowling pins. She gradually walked into the bathroom. It was in a disarray. Over-run by feminine products, perfume, make-up, curling irons, brushes, combs, everything a woman needed to spruce her appearance. Little by little, fury took hold of her. She started to pinpoint each item, who they belonged. In those seconds, she looked, saw a pair of red panties. She yanked the curling iron’s cord from the wall, used the barrell of it to pick up the undergarment. Lexi'd seen them before, inspecting every inch of the material. Written in black cursive on them was the name Simone. Her eyes grew wide with terror. All her fears had been confirmed. She stumbled back in shock body frozen in disbelief. Rage set in. She wanted nothing more but to tear them both to shreds. With tears flowing, she launched the iron, panties, bolted out the bathroom. She went steam full ahead like a freight train running to exit the room. She collided into someone. Hard, fast, racked with unbearable emotion. It was Simone. The woman she trusted with her life and soul, glaring dead at her, eye to eye. It’s not what you think don’t get mad! Simone's hysteria flared, throwing hands in the air, staring like a psychopathic woman. "Why the fuck's your shit in this room with my man! Lexi's chest fought for oxygen, eyes begging for answers. Simone hesitated, swallowed a hard gulp, searched internally for a suitable explanation. Lexi spoke again, pointed her finger. You better start talking bitch i mean right now or i’m gonna pull this razor slice that pretty little face of yours! Look, l-l-listen, this is about you okay! He asked me to help him get back with you. They ran out of rooms and... She stammered nervously. Lexi stepped, furiously pushed her in the chest with both hands. Simone stumbled on a pile of clothes, fell to the floor. She rose with the quickness. You think i’m stupid huh?... Lexi's tone was low, infuriating, inching her way toward. Murder was the only thing on her mind. I told you he’s got you twisted! You really think i would fuck this man behind your back after everything we been through? Simone took two steps back the closer Lexi got. Yes i do. Want to know why bitch? From day one you wanted my life. It wasn’t enough to be front and center in it but you had to go be a fuck'n low down dirty snake. It’s not like that! Simone reached behind herself, feeling her body nudge against the dresser. You’re a goddamn liar! Lexi tapped hard on Simone’s forehead with her finger for each word that spilled from her mouth. Girl listen i told you you’re overreacting. She swatted Lexi’s hand down. I trusted you. You’re definitely fuck'n this nigga. How long! She exploded in rage, grabbed Simone’s blouse, rung it by the neck wedging Simone onto the dresser. So you put all your cards on one person? It’s foolish okay somebody’s gonna suffer. Clearly it’s you! Can’t believe you’d let this man take you to hell! I should’ve listened to that nigga last summer when he told me you were a shady bitch. Lexi crossed her arms, turned her back, eyes watering from gut wrenching emotional pain. Oh please i know who you’re talking about. He wanted to eat my pussy but i shut him down. Who listens to that crackhead anyway! Simone screamed again. Lexi forcibly rotated her body to face her betrayer. You have some fuck'n nerve speaking self righteous! You told me you had other things to do couldn’t attend his party. Here you are in New York! In his hotel room! There’s no excuse betch! I don’t care what you say. It’s not true alright! He asked me to meet him here to discuss you! I agreed! Onyx misses you! End of story! She pleaded for reasoning, grabbed both Lexi’s shoulders, shook her, looking her dead in the eyes. Tears streamed down both women’s face. Lexi shoved her back again. Was i not a good enough friend to you? Huh? Lexi questioned with a whispered cracked voice. They locked sight. Simone hesitated, lowered her head in shame, then, lifted it again refusing to give in to the truth. I wish you would believe me. I have too many men to want one who can’t keep his dick in his pants. Look what he’s done to you. You’ve lost yourself. You’re not the same. He changed you. Simone tried her best to appear collected under pressure. Like a repetitive commercial she played the memories of she and Onyx's dealings. How they got money together, had repeated sex, fun, smoking, drinking, the abortion clinic, building, constantly in her mind. Sounds so fuck'n good coming from someone who can’t keep a goddamn man to save her life. Have you forgotten i’ve seen every relationship you’ve ever had play out to an ugly end? Bitch act like you’re talking to me not some interview to set up more schemes. Bitch i know you! Really girl? That’s not fair. Simone blew her breath, hurriedly walked to the bed and sat. She started going through her phone restlessly. You see, look at you. Innocent people don’t act like this. Whores do. Shut the hell up speak on shit you know!.. Simone clapped loudly. ....This don’t mean shit. So what! Me being in this room don’t prove a damn thing! Grow up okay i’m not your enemy. This no good nigga you’re cutting my throat for is. Lexi smirked, watching theatrics unfold. She applauded. Very nice. I think the award committee's missing one of their most prized actresses. Hollywood here she comes to the ceremony but ah make sure you use a seat filler for mine because i won’t be attending. The sarcasm was tremendously evident accompanied by a wide closed smile. Cute. Remember you started this. Not me. Simone added, keeping eyes planted on her phone. She swiped the screen. Sent Onyx a text. Informed him that something bad had happened. She didn’t mentioned Lexi’s name, however, begged him to respond. Lexi crossed her arms to her chest again standing there seething wondering what to do next. Better learn the rules of the game so you can play it better than anyone else. What comes around goes the fuck around. Karma bitch. Watch. Lexi exclaimed. She tapped her foot to calm her temper. Simone looked at her. No all i have to do is pay attention to what people say when they’re mad. Absolutely. What comes out their mouth they been dying to let you know. It’s cool. You always thought you were better than me. Don't try to guilt trip me bitch. An awkward silence ensued. Unable to watch a woman sit peaceful and insult her intelligence, Lexi bolted over slapped the phone out Simone’s hand. It flew onto a pile of clothes. Are you talking to that nigga now you lying hoe!" She pulled Simone's natural hair with every ounce of strength knowing Onyx liked it long to a woman’s shoulders. A memory came flooding back. Lexi remembered herself and Onyx fucking for several hours straight one summer above Franklin Park Zoo’s golf course at night. It infuriated her even more. She tried to yank Simone's hair from the root.

Where do i begin? It’s light work. You killed for less. It’s nothing. Ain’t that what you said to me? Jacy questioned holding a Ruger three-eighty firearm wearing black leather gloves. He pointed it at his best friend’s chest. Jacy's eyes were red, lifeless, cold. The two men sat across from each other in wooden chairs. Onyx was cocooned in duct tape from ankles to shoulders. They were face to face. I bring you out here ‘cause you said this was the apartment you wanted my opinion for. So this payback right? Is that why we drove way the fuck out here? For you to do ya dirt? Onyx said. Look, stop it. You know what it is man. This is it huh? Onyx grinded his teeth looking at a man he’d known forever, someone he’d given unwavered loyalty. It's pay back. It’s called survival nigga. Jacy told him. Shit’s crazy. Onyx laughed under
