About this ebook
Love can hurt and love can heal. Love can make life miserable or fantastically exciting and pleasurable. It is an intense emotion, mostly misunderstood by psychologists, sociologists and other professionals, but yet, the subject of almost all artistic endeavors.
If you like poetry, you'll love this book. Most of the poems relate to the ups and downs of a romantic love affair. If you have been in love, this poetry will remind you of tender moments that will bring tears to your eyes. If you have never been in love but dreamed of it, this book will help you understand the feeling of love better.
Many of the poems in this book are filled with hope, even when the situation seems impossible. They deal with gut-wrenching breakup and loss of love as well as the ecstasy of being in love. Many of them have an introduction that explains the circumstances they were written in.
These poems were written during an intense romantic love affair about forty years ago. The lovers this poetry references were both married to others when they fell in love. Between them, they had children ranging in age from two to seventeen years old. Children that, due to the lovers social situation, knew both of them. This made their situation doubly impossible.
After about two years of their secret illicit affair, the lovers finalized divorce with their original partners and subsequently married each other. Today, as this book and others in the series are published, they are senior citizens, married to each other and about to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their love. They are still in an intense romantic love affair that they enjoy in every way, each and every day.

Alex Berens is a pseudonym for an author that has spent much of his life writing technical and medical books. He is an incurable romantic and writes romantic fiction as well as love poetry. He lives in Southwest Florida, USA with his wife of forty-plus years. They have a deep love relationship. When they first found their intense love, he wrote hundreds of poems about life and love. A few of them were published at the insistence of friends and relatives, but most of them remained in his files, – until now. After reading some of his poetry, a friend convinced him to publish them. He wrote the bulk of his poetry as he found love forty plus years ago and published much of it recently in two books. The first, Poetry of an Affair contains a group of fifty poems about love that mirror many of the scenes in his short story, Twenty-Nine and Never Been Kissed. The second, Poetry of Love and Life, contains an additional fifty poems, some about love, some about life. All poems are original and written during this intense, and still ongoing, love affair. Introduction
Love is the subject of many romantic poems, songs, short stories, novels, philosophical writings and sometimes medical books. Many writers prefix the word love
with words like; romantic, passionate, puppy, addictive, crazy and others. The fact is that being in love is quite different than just love. I can love my children, my dog, my home and innumerable other items, but as a heterosexual man, I can only be in love with another person, a woman.
Love is a distinct psychological state that occurs in normal persons. This is the state that is attributed to in virtually all romantic writings. It tends to appear suddenly and is often very intense. For some lucky people, an intense love affair can last a lifetime.
The poems in this book were mostly written about forty years ago when a person I knew for the prior ten years and I fell in love. Many people that fall in love fine it deteriorates in a year or so, but some lucky folks fall in love for life. I am happy and proud to be one of the lucky ones. The intense romantic love I found forty years ago has matured into something even better than it was in the beginning. While we are now more familiar with each other, that does not stop us from experimenting with new things while stil enjoying favorites of the past. Being in a
