A.B. Deos
I was born in Sydney, Australia, before the internet age, and grew up with an appreciation of the rich history of my Greek heritage. I was also gay, but never ashamed of it, and kept that part of my life hidden since it was my own business. .I had reached a point in my life where I started writing down my experiences, a kind of therapy to let things out. The result was a memoir, and after the fifth & final draft, it has been one of the thrills of my life to first see the cover of my first book, IN LOVE I TRUST, jump off the screen from Amazon’s website. One of my passions is my love for ‘Star Trek’. The ideals of a hopeful & inclusive future. I believe in the simplicity of life, not the exaggerated. I use a pen name, and I’m not a fan of social media. I prefer an author having an air of mystery about them. Live Long & Prosper, A.B. Deos

1. FAMILY
Kosta & Tom were a loving couple, about to celebrate their one-year anniversary being together, and they were still at that stage of maximizing every opportunity to show their love for one another. They would stare at each other, hold each other, and engage in sexual relations as often as their urges so easily desired. But also like other couples, they would at times have to discuss subjects where their individual positions would be opposing.
Kosta was lying face down, with his head resting over Tom’s chest, as they both got comfortable in bed waiting to drift off to sleep.
So when’s dinner at your parents this week?
Thursday,
replied Tom.
He had closed his eyes by now but was still semi-conscious, as his hands glided over Kosta’s upper back and neck, offering some massage relief.
You bringing the usual?
The usual,
Tom replied, Yeah, Marrickville...pick up...fresh tray of...galaktoboureko...got it.
Your whole family has a sweet tooth, I like that about them.
Tom smiled in response, recollecting his new found happiness when his family had welcomed a good Greek boy as his life partner.
Wish my own family could have been the same.
The pain of his own family’s reactions to his coming out would never be erased, but at least Kosta’s recollections were no longer comforted by loneliness.
Takes time...emotional responses of people...one day will change...look forward but...never forget...don’t hate...where you came from.
Just takes time,
echoed Kosta, who had also closed his eyes by now.
Kosta then turned his head to press his left ear against Tom’s chest, hearing the rhythms of his beating heart, and reminding him he was in a safe space. The thoughts of his boyfriend protecting him, and of the loving home they had created together, it showed him what a family could be, what any family should be.
So what do you think about having kids?
Kosta took advantage of his moment of clarity and had put the topic out there.
Starting our own family, guiding our kids to be just as open-minded and non-judgmental as we are.
Tom’s eyes now opened completely as the follow up statement confirmed the one subject he had always dreaded had reared its ugly head. Being put on the spot, right before bed time where he couldn’t run away and hide, Tom had to think carefully now. How would he get out of this conversation?
I’m sure your parents would love to have more grandkids.
Still caught in his own dream, the allure of
