    The Billionaire Boss

    Chapter 1

KEYS CLICKED AS SASHA typed rapidly into her computer. A notepad and a pen sat next to her ebony hand with a few lines written in on it. As she typed, the phone on her desk rang. She lifted the receiver in one swift motion and held it to her ear.

Montgomery, Incorporated. This is Sasha speaking, she said in a smooth voice.

She nodded as she listened to the person speaking on the other line.

He's not in right now. May I take a message? she asked politely.

Her delicate hand picked up the pen and wrote on a sticky note, smiling while nodding again.

He'll get in touch with you as soon as he arrives. Have a lovely day, she promised.

After hanging up the phone, she returned her fingers to the keyboard. The clock on the computer screen read that it was half past nine, yet her boss was nowhere in sight. She tapped the keys pensively. Just as she was reaching for the phone again, she heard the familiar ding of the elevator. With a warm smile, she squared her shoulders and raised her chin. Her boss appeared shortly.

Good morning, Mr. Montgomery, she chimed cheerfully.

    Yes, good morning, Oliver grumbled.

You have a call from Stark Institute, she announced while holding out the sticky note.

Oliver brushed past her extended hand and locked himself in his office. The door slammed and she trembled while setting down the note, returning her eyes to the computer screen. A shout echoed from the office and she turned to inspect the noise. The blinds were still drawn. She could hear a clamor, but could not witness the cause.

Fingers still trembling, she resumed typing until the door to his office opened.

Miss Montgomery, why is my breakfast cold? he heatedly inquired.

A stunned Sasha froze and met the gaze of her irritated boss.

You were late, sir, she timidly replied.

He groaned and shut the door again, leaving her rattled behind her office desk. She glanced around at the few occupants of the office who were glued to their computers, appearing to be oblivious to his anger or actively ignoring it. She frowned. When she looked back to the office, she stood carefully from her chair and smoothed her skirt before walking to the door. She rapped lightly on the wood.

Come in, his muffled voice called out.

Quietly, Sasha entered the office and walked with determination to the silver tray sitting on the end of his desk. She picked it up, carried it out to the break room, and heated up his breakfast biscuit. She freshened up his coffee and added a hint of coconut, then returned the tray wordlessly to his desk.

Is there anything else I can get for you, sir? she asked.

Oliver looked up from the papers on his desk. His glasses were resting on the lower part of his nose and his hair was slightly disheveled. The tie he wore was lazily tied, the frayed ends noticeably worn. His collared shirt hung open slightly to
