What to visit in... Cascais, Oeiras and Sintra
When I wrote my previous book, reporting on the most interesting things to visit in the city of Lisboa, I was quickly confronted with the fact that many readers also want to visit some of the areas nearby, in particular Cascais, famous for its beaches, and Sintra, which I personally consider one of the most beautiful villages in Portugal. However, writing about them would also require me to write some chapters on Oeiras, since this city is essentially placed between Lisboa and the two mentioned above. Of course these places don’t have as many monuments as our capital city[1], but that certainly does not make them any less interesting for either visitors or people who are looking for new places to visit.
Taking this into account, the premise for this new book follows entirely the spirit of the original – both as someone who was born and raised in Portugal, and as someone who loves presenting our local monuments to other people, I decided to write these lines in order to bring to light some of the most interesting things you can visit in the aforementioned cities and villages[2], from the point of view of someone who is very familiar with those places. As in the original report on the areas near Lisboa, this book is also split into several different categories, making it easier for you to plan your own visit based on what you find more interesting for yourself and whoever accompanies you.
For each particular location, I won’t mention everything that you can see, as that would require me to write – and you to read – regarding many places that can’t normally be visited, but I will be sure to provide you with information on countless famous places, along with ones most people may not be familiarized with.
As always, I hope you like reading these lines as much as I myself enjoyed writing them.
