    Publisher’s Note

Becoming an author isn’t an easy task. No two authors arrive at their destination the same way. Some are plotters and create detailed outlines for their stories. While others are pantsers, who let the characters tell the story and lead the author down a twisted and curvy road.

Becoming an author takes drive and determination. Along the way, everyone receives advice on what to do and what NOT to do. The authors at Inkspell are generous with their time and advice. They support each other, like a family.

Some of the Inkspell authors are best-sellers while others are award-winning. Each has their own story to tell and is happy to share with you a little piece of advice which might help you along the way. You will find something valuable in each piece of advice, as the authors motivate you to create your own stories.

In addition, they are sharing some of their favorite dishes and treats. Some are things that their characters would love, while others are the author’s own favorites. Each is delicious and sure to delight family and friends...and possibly add inches to your waistline.

Thank you for purchasing this book and we hope you will go on to purchase some of the amazing books by these wonderful authors. You can find all our books and information at http://www.inkspellpublishing.com.

    LIZ ASHLEE’S ADVICE

Let’s be honest: the biggest horror story a writer can face is writer’s block.

We’ve all been in a situation where we’re more likely to post on Facebook, fall down a rabbit hole on Google or watch cat videos via YouTube, than write a single word. Or, if you do write a word, it’s immediately replaced or deleted until you’ve hit your 1,000 word-count goal—but only in theory. Writer’s block doesn’t feel like a block in the road, but like a giant brick wall, aligned by a moat with alligators chomping at the bit to remind you that you’re no good.

But, really, what is writer’s block? Our minds don’t just stop being creative and we definitely don’t lose the ability to write. You don’t hear about doctors suddenly losing their ability to operate or accountants forgetting how to do math. In my honest opinion, writer’s block is like your conscious saying, Stop. Pay attention. There’s something wrong. The creative spirit inside you didn’t quit working—it’s trying to lead you in the right direction. Personally, whenever I get blocked, I take a step back and read. I ignore all those thoughts about bricks and alligators and insecurities and I try to piece together what the issues are. Sometimes I realize a huge chunk is going in the wrong direction, so I delete it. Believe me—That. Sucks.

More importantly, it’s cathartic. The indecision (for now) disappears and you can go in the right direction again. You literally knocked out your psychological road block.
