What Does It Take To Be a Project Manager - Joseph Abboud
Author’s Note
I have planned to write this book as concisely as possible. No embellishments. My intention was to make it informative in the shortest possible terms.
The objective of this book is to reveal what you need to know to prepare yourself to be a project manager. If, after reading it thoroughly, you discover that you possess all the required competencies of a successful project manager, then you are on your way to become a star project manager.
Happy reading.
Introduction
When I graduated from high school in 1980, I took the decision then to become a software engineer. After ten years, my fortune had led me to manage a team of software engineers, wherein I found myself doing more management than programming. I confess that at the time I had not heard of the term ‘project management’ until my functional manager asked me to be certified in it. You need to get PMP certified, Joseph.
he snapped.
Since the company I was working at was willing to pay for the study materials and for the exam fees, I relentlessly search for books on the subject matter. There was no internet at the time, and yet, despite of purchasing some books on project management, I was not aware of the difficulties that besets this profession. There were no books on ‘how hard project management is.’
Until today, I have yet to find a book that confronts the above question. This book is expected to fill in this gap.
My intention of writing this book is to acquaint those who are willing to study project management with the difficulties of the nature of this profession, and the complications intertwined in it, so they may take a flawless decision on whether to embark its ocean or not.
Sensibly, anxiety and tears are part of most professions in life. Mine, as a project manager, was no different.
End of intro.
