About this ebook

The Earth has the appearance of great age, but the Bible talks of creation as happening in six days. Is there a way for the two to be reconciled? My theory is that when God is creating things in the six days, he is actually creating the design of that thing, and that the actual things form at a later time.

There is a gap after the creation account between when a mist came up and water the whole ground and when Adam was created. Is the gap a few days or billions of years? While I don't pretend to have all of the answers, I think that I can lead you to a greater understanding of the Bible and creation which will be able to sand up under scrutiny.

    Introduction

    Statement of faith

I believe that the Bible is God's inspired word. I believe that Jesus literally rose from the dead and that miracles occurred in the Bible. I believe that the Bible is true, but that God uses figures of speech, symbols and figurative language in the Bible. It makes sense that God would use figures of speech and figurative language to communicate with us, as we use these same things in our speech. God, however, uses symbols and figurative language consistently throughout the Bible, which makes them easier to understand.

Some people will no doubt attack me for interpreting the Bible in a different way than they do; I have never felt like I can judge other people in this manner. When I look at great theologians, it seems like there is one idea that each one has which is contrary to how I believe the Bible. It also seems like for a great many of them, the farther away from the Bible the idea is, the more they concentrate on it.

Without naming the person, there was a leader in looking at the spiritual or symbolic meaning of the Bible. He got caught up several times in trying to pin a date for the second coming. People would call into his radio show and point out no one knows the day or the hour, but he would say that you have to look at the whole Bible,
